Not sure, but I don't think you can add "Mods" to the list in this forum. If you CAN and not get booted, could you tell me why it freezes when playing off the HD on me PS2? I like to take my key games - all the GHs included - on the road, when I contract, so I need to play off my HD.
BTW... I haven't played the PS3 one, yet, but I went ahead and bought the 360 version... should be coming soon. The demo on Tony Hawk's Proving Ground looked gorgeous, and I almost forgot that I was playing on the Xplorer guitar that was clearly built with shit, splinters, and rubber bands.

Just tried out the PS2 version last night. I loaded it onto my HDD and it froze at the title screen the first time I booted it up. So I reset the system and then hit Start to skip past the intro scene. The game loaded properly and I didn't run into any additional freezing issues after that.
The game has a new look to it, a little more slick I guess. I don't like the new star power meter (it's a few tubes instead of the bar). It gets hard to see how much is left when it's low. I do like that the fret board doesn't jump when you activate star power, which could screw you up before if you were on a particularly difficult section. The notes just change to that blue color.
The controls so far seem smooth (hammer-ons and pull-offs work well) and the overall feel of the game hasn't changed. The battles with famous musicians (Tom Morello, Slash) are OK but not that great. I have only played for about an hour, so once I get further into it I'll come back and post more. I was looking forward to trying out the Dragonforce song but I don't see it in the Store. Did it get left out of the PS2 version, or do I have to unlock something (like beating expert levels) to be able to buy it?

I did experience some freezing last night while playing. After beating a song, it was on the Loading screen to load the Encore and it just got stuck there (althought he loading animation continued to play.) I also experienced a weird thing where there would be this long sound that got stuck through the whole song, like it didn't release a note or something. It was very obnoxious, but when I rebooted the PS2 then I didn't have that problem again.
I think I'm going to play it off the disc from now on, even if it means slower load times, to make sure (hopefully) that I don't get very far along and then have it lock up again. I also found out somewhere that you have to beat a medium or harder level (complete all songs) in order to unlock the Dragonforce song.

I played it last night as well and noticed ridiculously long load/save times from the disc. Also another thing I noticed is that about 25% of the notes that I hit correctly did not register. Also even some of the longer notes. I would hit them correctly and it would start holding for a split second and then would read as if I missed it. Do you think that maybe its the guitar? I have a wireless, could missed notes be a sign of low battery level. All I know is that it was extremely annoying and wouldn't allow me to score any better than a 3 star on any given song because of the 25% of hit notes being registered as missed notes. Any thoughts?

Based on my experiences, it is your guitar or something else, but not the game. I haven't noticed the game dropping or not registering my notes properly.

Picked it back up, today. I didn't have loading issues or pauses, but I made sure to skip all the quick animated videos. The only time the music got stuck in a loop was if I sat at a menu or in the shop and walked away for a bit. Prolly gets screwed up when the loop tries to restart.
And yup, sho nuff, you have to finish on medium or higher to get the Dragon Force song... reason being, it is played as a freebee during the rolling credits. Just beat the Charlie Daniel's band and finish off Lou.
BTW... I about crapped my pants, when Devil went down to Georgia started scrolling. 15k later, and I am playing with Lou (prolly short for Lucifer). Sooo... I am gonna tinker with this version until Monday morning when I pick up my new Gibson and the 360 version.

It is funny you should say so. I have noticed where the dexterity and quickness (from playing real guitar), the muscle memory and habits can work against you.
Yes, this game is freakin awesome! All of the games in the series are pretty cool... yes, even 80's... GH2 is prolly my fav, but this one has all the online junk and the kickin guitar battles.
Pick up GH3 for the guitar, but also go get a copy of GH2 by itself. The Xplorer that game with the 360 version of GH2 is crap. New Gibson rocks.

Just wanted to update everyone on my 25% unregistered problems that I was experiencing. It was because I was using a pick. I heard from somewhere, that if you play electric guitar that you could play guitar hero with a pick. I haved played Guitar Hero I, II, and 80's with a pick with no problem. But for some reason Guitar Hero III doesn't work well with a pick. In short once I stopped using the pick, everything played great. This game rocks!!!!!!

Finished the game on Easy last night and it unlocked Dragonforce Through the Fire and Flames. You get to play it during the credits with no rock meter or score, so it was pretty fun.
I'm SOOOO glad I'm done with Easy. I was getting bored playing those songs, but I want to unlock everything... well, everything except the songs you have to play co-op. Since I don't have anyone to play the game with on a regular basis, I won't be able to unlock those songs. It kind of sucks that they made them co-op unlockable.

To enter cheats, from the main menu go to Options -> Cheats -> Enter New Cheat. For each code, you have to strum while you press the given buttons. Notes in parenthesis are held together while you strum.
i.e. (RY) denotes Red and Yellow buttons held and strummed once
Also, there are five levels of hyperspeed in GH3. Level 5 is INSANITY to say the least. To switch between them, you press the green button while the code is highlighted after you enter it.
All codes except Unlock All Songs may be turned off directly from the cheat menu by pressing the green button.
OBOYOBOY Hyperspeed
(RY)(RB)(RO)(RB)(RY)(GB)(RY)(RB) Performance Mode
(GR)(GR)(GR)(RY)(RY)(RB)(RB)(YB)(YO)(YO)(GR)(GR)(GR)(RY)(RY)(RB)(RB)(YB)(YO)(YO) Precision Mode
(YO)(RB)(RO)(GB)(RY)(YO)(RY)(RB)(GY)(GY)(YB)(YB)(YO)(YO)(YB)YR(RY)RYO Unlock All Songs
This is courtesy of the PS2 section @ www.gamefaqs.com
I didn't check to see if they are the same combos for 360. BTW... I am happy I went ahead and got the 360 one, too. Friggin sweet!
