Hello, I want to make a backup of my navigation DVD just in case I scratch the original as they cost like 160 (I think). I tried using nero to make a data backup, my comp see the data and I can copy it to the HD for example. Nero seemed to work and copy the DVD but when I put it into the car it did not want to read it. I also have a similar problem with music CDs. If I make a copy of the original it does not want to read it in the CD rom but oddly it does read it in the DVD (meant for the navigation), the only problem is if I use the DVD for the music CDs I cant use the navigation. It seems like there is some kind of copy protection the cars CD/DVD uses. Lastly, the CD rom in the car works if I use a store bought CD. I tried different media and different burn speeds with no luck for both issues. Can someone please give me some advice as to what else I can try.
BTW the car is a BMW 335i

Thanks,
Sebastian

there's another one that's i think more suitable to you, am sure it was for a BMW, though you'll have to search for it yourself, i can't find it..

I backed up my Pioneer navigation DVDs with DVD Decrypter and burned the output ISO file with it also. Works flawlessly.

Thanks for the reply. I tried it using nero and have had no success. I tried different media and lowered the write speed. The weird thing is that my comp sees the data on the DVD. I can copy it to my HD. For some reason though, when I try a direct copy/backup of the DVD it tells me to insert the DVD and its already in. If I make a data backup which has all the data on the DVD the car does not read the DVD. Another weird thing is that I can play burned audio CD in the CD player of the car, though it does read store bought cd. It must have some sort of copy protection built into the cars hardware. If anyone has any advice as to what else to try please let me know.

BTW I have a liteon (new model) burner.

Thanks,
Sebastian

its pretty easy to make a backup but its not that easy to get it to play .If it was then people would not be paying $300 + for duplicates .It is encoded on the disc and the box that you put it in requires the original(theres some sort of identification that it reads from the disc).A mate said there was something in one of the disc layers that your box requires .I know, i scratched mine and tried doing the copy. The copy doesnt work.....Also depends on the system you have............
