In DeCrypter, Tools -> Settings... -> I/O -> Options -> Ignore Read Errors might help. There's also some error retry stuff on the Device tab.

I purchased a scratch repair kit at Hastings. It was made by
discwasher digital. It contains 2 bottles. One is a cleaner and
one polishes out scratches (unless they are really deep). It cost
under $10 and lasts a long time. Perhaps this would help.

use a smooth non-abrasive toothpaste. rub a small amount over the scratch and wait for it to dry. Buff it off with a soft cloth in a circular motion, never in a straight line.

You can usually clean scratches off the original, but not off a copy. On a copy, the burn is on the surface, not down under the surface, like the pressed originals.

Some drives can read scratched discs better than others. If you're using a DVD Rom drive to read the disc, try it in the burner, and see if it reads it better. I've had to do that a couple of times.

my mistake, I should have read the original post a little more thoroughly. My advice? toss the dvd-r away and make another backup of the original.
