Have read the guide DVD to VCD.I used both smartripper and decrypter both worked fine.
then created d2v and wave files using DVD2AVI version 1.77.4 and also version 1.76 after reading comments that some people have had trouble with 1.776.Both these processes worked as expected(I THINK).
When I try to open these files using TMPGEnc Plus I get error message "cannot open or is unsupported. After trying everything these files will still not transfer into TMPGEnc.Is the problem with DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc?? You cannot move onto the next step untill the above is resolved.
Do you guys have any thing to try or should I just buy DVD Copy Plus and save the heart ache. These copies are in Pal format??

This is Probably Simple...OK, First make sure that you have not moved, Renamed, or deleted any of the VOB files that you used to Make the D2V file...And you have to Copy and Paste the "DVD2AVI.vfp" file from the DVD2AVI folder into the TMPGEnc install Folder...Now everything should work, Just remember not to move or delete any of the Files in the Path between the VOB files and the D2V file...Cheers

Thanks Minion but the lastest position is this,Created a folder called DVD.After decypter or SmartRipper now have in DVD folder 1 dvd navigation file, and 6 vts-01 VOB files.
Using DVD2AVI I now have 2 more files in same folder, one is a d2v file the other is a Nero media player media file.I cut and pasted DVD2AVI.vfp file into TMPGEnc folder(TMPGEnc Plus under evaluation).Still TMPGEnc programme does not support or can not load these files .I am of course only trying to open the d2v and audio files.Even tried changing the directshow multimedia file reader priority.any other ideas.

Well in that list that the "Direct show multi-Media reader" is there should also be one that says "DVD2AVI.vfp" or "DVD2AVI project file reader" this is the Reader that lets TMPGEnc read D2V files, if it isn"t there then that is the Problem, and if it is there then Raise the Priority and if this Doesn"t help then you should Probably Just make a New D2V file...If all ends up failing I"ll send you a Mpeg2 Decoder for TMPGEnc.....Cheers

PS: I just noticed that you said you "Cut and Pasted" the DVD2AVI.vfp file, You should Not Cut and Paste But "Copy" and Paste because DVD2AVI needs a Copy of the File also....

I don"t know what could be wrong because this is a Tried and True extensivly used method for Frameserveing files to Tmpgenc...Up untill rescently this was the Only way to Back up a DVD to (S)VCD/DVD useing Tmpgenc.....
OK...The other way is to install a Certain Mpeg2 decoder so Tmpgenc can read the Vob files directly but it still will not be able to read the audio in the Vob files so you will have to use the audio file that was extracted useing DVD2AVI, and there are a few things you are going to have to do so this will work Properly....First Download this Mpeg2 Decoder
http://www.marumo.ne.jp/mpeg2/m2v_vfp-0.6.44.lzh .....Extract the Files to a folder then put it somewere, you can even put it in the Tmpgenc install directory..Inside that folder will be a few files of intrest..First you will have to Copy and Paste the "m2v.vfp" file into the Tmpgenc install directory...Now we have to configure the Decoder, you do this by running the "m2vconf.exe" file, and a settings screen will appear, Under "aspect ratio" choose "Use",
and Under "Field order" choose "Keep oroginal Frame" and under "IDCT Algorythm" choose "Floating Point referance" , and Under "SIMD" choose all of them if you use an Intel CPU and just "SSE and MMX" if you have an Athlon...Under "Gop List" leave the boxes empty ,and under "Consecutive Numbered Files" choose "Concatenate Automatic" and with the rest leave them as they are....Now the Plugin should be installed but you have another Problem and this is that your Movie is in a Bunch of seperate Vob files and you want to encode them to one big Mpeg1/VCD file so we have to get Tmpgenc to Load all of your Vob files at once and in the correct order, To do this you will have to Re-Name your Vob files in a numerical sequence, so you Name the First Vob file something like "Movie-001.vob" and the second one "Movie-002.vob" and the Third one "Movie-003.vob" Ect with all of the Vob files, after doing this Run Tmpgenc and go to "Option" to "Enviromental Settings" and under the "General Setting" choose "Open Sequence Files as Movie"...You might also look in the "Vfapi Plugins" and see if the "Mpeg2 Video Plugin" is listed and then raise it"s Priority...Now all you have to do is Load the First Vob file "Movie-001.vob" and the rest will load in the correct order then load the Wav audio file that you got from DVD2AVI in as the audio source and then encode to VCD...Well I hope I explained it well enough and I hope everything works out good....Let me know how it turns out...Cheers

PS: the Mpeg decoder also comes with a simple Mpeg editor that you migh find works better in some cases that the Tmpgenc editor....Cheers

Have mercy on yourself, don't buy that DVD Copy Plus! I own it and 321studios XCopy and Xpress. DVD Copy does a lousy job at best.

I'd suggest you go to http://www.doom9.org and check the downloads area for the latest release of DVD2SVCD. This is a compiled suite of applications that will create a SVCD spanned over 2-3 CDs from a DVD. Simply start it and forget it. It will tie up your computer for 6-8 hours - good for night time operation. A burning utility that handles CUE files is necesary like CDRWIN or Nero 6.

DVD2SVCD has all the applicaions listed above and uses them in it's operation.

Expect private mail from me.

mininon thanks for all that but I'M not a rocket scientist.Trashed TMPGE,Trashed DVD2AVI downloaded both (again) in hope of possible conflict somewhere.Result still the same TMPGEnc will not load d2v or wave files.I think that hang the expense future copies will be DVD/DVD not DVD/cd or DVD/vcd or DVD/svcd. Thanks mate

are you loading the correct d2v file, when using SmartRipper, it pulls one off the disc, if you select that one then you will get that unsupported error, and if click on HELP in DVD2AVI, is the vfapi plugin checked? also in TMPGEnc when you click options is regester TMPGEnc vfp to fvapi? on thing i found is that if you install DVD2AVI INSIDE the TMPGEnc folder it works alot better (personal opinion) hit me back and tell me if you still need more help, cuz of all the programs ive tried, dvd2avi+tmpgenc has been the best.
