hello all. I have been doing a lot of research and cannot seam to find what graphics cards will be coming out from nvidia/ati around the christmas date. I know there is going to be the 8800GT come out late October, but what about ATi? I was kinda hoping for a duel GPU on 1 pcb but I guess that wont be happening until after christmas.

I found this for the 8800GT, which I might consider getting but I've been reading that Ati is going to overthrow nvidia with something even newer, but WHEN?

I was comparing that to the 2900XT 1GB, which scored 9579 in 3dmark06 here: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2159&page=8

I want the best graphics card (and newest). i hear the 8800GT is just going to overtake the 8800GTS models, which is not really what I am looking for.

I am looking for a newer card that will beat the ultra, and will be here around Christmas time.

There's an 8800GT now? Is it out? If it isn't, I'd be sceptical of that bench. That 3dmark score is HUGE. I know people with 3Ghz C2Ds like mine and 8800GTXs that can barely make that score. 3.6Ghz should not give them enough of an edge for a lightweight card to get that score.

No sam, sorry but the 8800GT doesnt come out until 29th of October, or at least thats the date for here in USA.

You know of any other good next gen cards that are coming out?

Can't say I've been tracking them much, I won't be getting them myself, and I will only believe benches I see once they're actually released.

Think about it. So far, nvidia have only produced one top end edition of the 8000 series, the 8800 (in GTS, GTX and Ultra forms). Think back to the FX. There was not only the 5800, but 5900, and 5950. At the 6000 level, there was only a 6800, but there was a standard, an LE and a GS in addition to the GT and Ultra.
On the 7000 level, there was not just a 7800GS/GT/GTX but a 7900GT/GTX and a 7950GT/GX2. With only three 8000 series cards, it's just too early for nvidia to move on to the 9000. Couple this with not a single official report from nvidia on the card's existance, and a strong report of a potential 8900 series coming up later, all this AND the fact that ATI will have nothing to counter it for ages, making the product unnecessary, it just doesn't make commercial sense.

How about something by ATi then? I hear the 2950s are coming soon, but not for a while though... I would think that the gfx card companies would try to release a card for when Crysis comes out, so more people might buy them, although the 8800s already did that.

Ok sam, if they dont come out with next gen cards, what would you recommend? I think I still want to stick with the 2900XT 1GB, just because it has 1GB of vram, and 320 stream processors. But, after looking at the 8800GT's 3dmark06 bench, maybe I'll go with that, but its hard to believe a single 8800GT would do better than the Ultra, and at $200, its definetly not in the price range vs the Ultra at what, $650?

So what do you think I should stick with for Crysis and future games?

You'll be fine with a HD2900XT 1GB. Especially when DX10 starts becoming more mainstream, then it'll show it's great side.

The RV670 from ATI a.k.a. HD2950 series is supposed to come out later this year. The 8800GTS SKU and the 8800GT based on the G92 are also due latter this year. The GF 9800GTX is supposed to come out later this year as well. If it were me I would wait an see what the two companies cook up.

Oh really? Do you have proof? This will be awesome if it can proved. I guess only time will tell. I should probably wait and see what happens in the next 2 months, since thats when I hope everything will be released. I'm just anxious and like to review things a lot before I buy them to make sure I'm not buying a piece of crap.
