I captured a movie though my tv tuner card on my computer as a dvd file. Then I used TMPGEnc DVD Author to remove all the ads and make a dvd file. All went fine and is nice to watch. The file was a little to big so I used dvd shrink 3.0 too shrink only 8% and burned it to a dvd-rw.But when I went to watch it on my standalone the movie was not nice, grainy.
Has DVD shrink let me down?( first time)

So I tried the trial ver. of DVD2One and it didn't shrink it at all, left it the same size.So I tried too use it again and see if it would shrink this time, but it just crashes every time I try this.
So I thought I would try the old ver. of DVDshrink and will only analyze it and then close.
How can I shrink this file and keep it's quality?
I had read in a forum somewhere that dvdshrink would do this to older action films.

It doesn"t Matter if you Compress it 1% or 50% any compression means that it has been re-encoded and any re-encodeing greatly reduces the Quality, Especially from a Noisy TV Capture which will need a LOT more bitrate to compress than a Clean crisp Image like a Freshly ripped DVD....I have a Great method for Mpeg capture for SVCD or DVD that Produces great quality, it takes a little longer than some other methods but but the quality is Superior...If you would like me to explain it to you PM me and I"ll tell you how to do it......Cheers

Strictly speaking Shrink and DVD2One are transcoding rather than re-encoding

Yes, (normal) TV capture is not clean. If you capture through a digital source (satellite), it'll be much cleaner.

It also depends a lot on the settings you used for TMPGEnc. You didn't really say what settings were used.
