I am about to make a 4 grand plus outlay for a gaming notebook so far I have been looking at the Dell M1730 Quote and Specs attached being a newbie to all the jargon with Notebooks I am after some help.

1. Is this a good system ( refer specs below)??

2. Im not worried about weight size etc.

2. Want reliability!!

3. Have to play new CRYSIS pc game amongst others, but the game minimum requirements are 3.0ghz processor, so does that mean the dell $4000 NB with my specs (below) wont play it???!!!!.

3. Can the procesor be overclocked??!! HOW?? DOES it harm the system??

4. Have 4500 budget!

5. Any suggestions on other Laptops.

6. Basically if i spend 4500 i want to be able to play all latest games etc.

7. EPP coupons that dell offer any ideas where I can find out who is a member ie which companys government etc. Thanks for all your help ill await your advice with enthusiasm.

1. Yes
2. That's not a question
2. That's the second number two. Dell Laptops are well made, so you'll probably be fine. to be on the safe side get an on site warranty
3. The 8700M will be able to play crysis, but not at particularly high detail levels.
3. (Another number 3!) Laptops are usually not worth overclocking, they are too sensitive to heat. That CPU's fast enough, leave it as it is. You'll be able to run crysis with a CPU les than 3Ghz, simply because that processor's much faster than the 3Ghz chips of old.
4. That's not a question
5. If I was to recommend a high grade laptop, it would be a Dell XPS, but for that money can't you get one with a mobile 8800?
6. That's also not a question, but yes, that laptop will be able to play any current game relatively well.
7. Can't help you there, I'm afraid.

that seems like a great laptop, XPS are very good. the only thing id upgrade or look at is the graphics card. a laptop with 3.0ghz and 4gb memory, id expect something like an 8800gtx or something. but the 8700 isnt bad.

laptops cant have a 8800gtx... Not even a mobile version of it yet. The 8700 I think is the highest you can go.

As sam said, that laptop wont be able to play crysis on max perfectly. According to Cevat Yerli, you need a 8800GTX, not a 8700.

Btw, thats a kickass laptop, but you could get a desktop with better parts (by dell) for about the same price, since you said you didnt care about mobility.

Ah well if you don't care about mobility, get a desktop. Far more powerful for the same price.

@megs8888 ,
Have you looked at Alienware Laptops ?
You can even get SLI graphics, Raid/Optional hard drives(With different sizes, rpm's, caches)
You can get the option of XP PRO AND XP MEDIA CENTER(Don't have to go with VISTA).

Burn On,
Russell

PS. If I had that kind of money to spend - I would build my self a Bad*ss destop and still have some money to buy a nice laptop that has a decent deticated video card. I am sticking with XP till something decent comes buy(No Vista for me).

I disagree. Alinware laptops, or just about everything they sell is way overpriced. If you decide to go with a desktop, you can build one thats way better than a alienware, for half the price.

Loads of laptops can play Crysis, but not at high settings. For that you'll either need a desktop PC, or an Alienware.
