Have not seen the svf myself, but found a thread here on it.
It appears that svf is a file checker to verify the files.
There is a link in the thread to software to open it.
Hopefully this will help:

svf files from what i have read, are a new type of compression files and you have to use a certian uncompresion program , most of the files that i have seen are for newer movies that have just come to the big screen, my understanding from what else i have read that if you are able to open the files there are some nasty virus. so i would avoid this type of file alltogeather good luck

x_of_halo - are you sure you don't mean sfv files, as they're for checking for corruption, a lot of torrents have sfv files included so you can check for corrupted files. jeffw224's on the right track there..

Quote from the sfv site
Quote:
SFV Checker Ensure your multi-volume file archives are complete and accurate!

SFV Checker uses CRC-32 technology to check each file and notifies you of any potentially bad, corrupt, incorrect size or missing files to save you hours of downloading only to find you have 1 file missing or the last file has a CRC checksum error.
The CRC value comparison is done by using a standard SFV file. If an SFV file is not available, you can drag and drop the file into the list view to produce the calculated CRC value. An informative report log is generated after file scanning that provides a list of missing and inconsistent files, as well as, a summary for the archive.
