Hi mate,
i;ve downloaded fromthe link you sent, but nothing still.
The download i got from dell wa sony - firmware, this made no difference after installing it and restarting.
The device manager says the device is working properly, however i'm not sure what the DMA is or how to check if this is enabled?

Hiya,
right the ATA Channel 0 and ATA Channel 1 have both got DMA enabled.
I've rebooted now as i never did that before and ran the check file, however it has come up saying it cannot be run.
Also sorry i forgot to mention that, i am running on a copy of vista at the mo (saved on a dvd) so my xp is not installed (on CD)

Could be a dead drive.
I have a Sony DRU-800A that only recognizes dvds. I think the laser for the cd(there's one for each) died.
