Nero7 latest update aborts during creation of Slide Show

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you might have.
Nero certainly has NOT BEEN any help whatsoever.
Problem 1: for the past 60 days.
While creating ?Slide Show? with jpeg and mp3?s and ?Adding Content? pressing ?Next? to advance to next window then ?Add Slide Show? aborts back to Smart Menu. If Vision is launched from user file, when abort occurs, reverts back to Explorer. DVD burning had worked well. Made 10 DVD?s over past 4 months.
Problem 2: for the past 2 weeks
Now if I can finally make it to the DVD burn window, about 40-50% transcoding complete, burning aborts back to Smart Menu. No error log created.
Nero Ver 7 Ultra Enhanced / Vision v 4 Latest updates, all
Windows XP/SP2 latest updates all, 1.7ghz, 500m Ram, latest flashroms.
HP DVD 840e LightScribe latest flashroms.
iTunes and Adobe Reader latest updates
Notebook is ?Fully Loaded? ie: 400,000 files on 30 gig HD of all kinds of industrial programs.
Original CD installation of Nero v7 worked great for 4 months. Successfully created slideshows, added Jpegs and Mp3?s, and burned DVD?s, and Wave Editor.
Suspect incompatibility conflict problem with XP, Nero, or iTunes UPDATES.
Have removed and reinstalled repeatedly the original Nero CD version, Internet updates and V8 demo versions, all no go. After one such removal manually deleted all Nero and Ahead entries in RegEdit, whew?what a lot was left over after registry cleaner was invoked.
Created Service Ticket with Tech Support in Germany, and over past 60 days receive a reply about once every two weeks, with such suggestions as ?Have you attempted to reboot your computer? Dah.
Have used InfoTool, and Support.cab to collect data, but don?t really know what to look for. Used clean tool, Registry checker, removed iTunes, Adobe, and OEM Visio RecordNow software that was updated about the time the problem began.
Purchased 2nd hard drive, did fresh install of Windows XP, then Office, then Nero. Worked great for 3 days, then loaded iTunes and Adobe, worked great for 3 more days, then mysteriously began having same problems as the original hard drive.
Have opened fee based Service Tech Support ticket with Nero in California, paid my Visa fee, sent them the same data, told I would get a response within 24 hours, and Voila?.No response.
Paid Fee again, now told 6-7 days or MORE before a response (it?s in Escalations).
Could it possibly be incompatible Video Codecs, or excessive ?DirectShows? (where do I find them?)

I'm a newbie to Nero and this forum.
1) Appreciate the link to 7.10.1.0. Which was/is my presently installed version. (CD version 7 Ultra Enhanced/is 1 or 2 rev's back). Did run clean tool and Registry Cleaner (note: when running Registry Checker ... nothing appeared to occur/box is greyed out), after Nero removal and rebooted (3 times), without improvement. Even loaded ver.8 Demo and then removed.
2) Nero Log File: Which NERO log?
Problem #2. Only two log files appear to be created during/after the attempted burn. Vision just goes away and Smart Menu reappears. They are listed below, but that's probably not your question.
Not trying to be smart just ignorant:
Log files before or after installation?
I have included my email address below if you care to contact. I have NeroSupport.cab files prep'd and ready which include installation "log files": (dxdiag_log.txt; cleantool.log; NeroDigital.ini; 1.0.19_public, msinfo_log.txt; infotool.txt and other stuff.
Problem #1 May have been excessive fragmentation @ 1-2%. Ran defrag; rebuilt my Vision content menu and it didn't abort on me. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic. Have not had problem #1 for the past 4 attempts this afternoon.
The only two files that are changed after I run Vision is:

3) Looked in forum rules before posting email address?must have missed it.
Do I need to hit an executable to create such a file?
4) NeroHistory.txt file not found, searched various ways?entire hard drive, see list.
5) Did find Nero.txt (but it appears to be a factory error list lookup table)
6) Did find NeroVisionLog.txt in \Doc&Setts see below.
7) All files in Nero, Ahead, \Docs\Setts appear to very old dates, even though I just did a clean, and reinstall on Friday.
8) Also looked for recent log files. Best data appears to occur within NeroSupport.cab.
9) dxdiaglog.txt file partially attached. Possibly this one?

My 2 cents,
You get a NeroVisionLog.txt log if that's the application you used. If you were to use Nero Burning ROM, you would get a NeroHistory.log.
That's what I get.

Appreciate the tips. Reasonable explanation why I couldn't find the file. Will use BurningROM again just to see what that file might say. Haven't used it since the Vision problems / Cleaning / Reinstalling process started.
Have not used Nero Burning Rom yet. Did try under Vision Burning to create a file rather than burn DVD. Still aborted part way through transcoding.
Memory/Speed
Thought disk space might be an issue, so upgraded to 100g HDD.
Since Vision had worked great for 4 months, and was blazingly fast (did try lowering priority and disk burn speed) with using only 1/2 available actual memory, was reluctant to upgrade on that just yet, but do appreciate the tip.
Since problem wasn't there at the beginnning of the CD ver installation of both hard drives and it now occured on both hard drives, suspect it is some XP or OEM software update conflict. Or possibly as you suggested common hardware.
If fee based Tech Support doesn't come through will have no choice but to change directions. Running out of time.

Try a short slideshow. See if you can get it to complete before it shuts down. You can just try transcoding to your HDD as that's when it seems to be failing.
This will help point to the problem, hardware/software. I'm thinking it may be an overheating problem.
Transcoding is a CPU intensive process so if anything is going to make it run hot, this will. Try blowing out your CPU fan/heatsink with canned air and check that the air inlets/outlets are free of debris/dust/dirt/etc.
You could even run a program like Everest Ultimate and see what your temperatures are. Most folks don't need to do that though. As soon as you start blowing it out you will know.

Thanks. Reinstalled v6 and am back up and running. After I get the backlog caught up will reinstall v7 or v8 and then post a resulting log file, the failed/interesting ones have been overwritten.

Thanks for the tip. CPU fan does kick into medium speed about 50-75% into transcoding, then back down to about 25% during burn, then back to off after DVD is ejected.
My first 1 or 2 tries to remove/reinstall some time back I used Install/Remove then Tech support said to use Clean Tool and Driver-Clean Tool, rather than Install/Remove programs. So I use General Clean Tool v7.; then Driver-CleanTool, then Registry-Checker then manually removed all Nero and Ahead Regedit entries. Most left over entries are associations.
I have 4 different versions of Nero. (v6 OEM, v7.6?, v7.10.1.0, v8), so did my usual Drive Clean, then installed my Original v6, straight up, no gimmicks and it worked right out of the box, with out issue burning the very first DVD and then 2nd DVD. Also burned my Lightscribe labels, no problem.
Prior to that I burned a DVD Label using SE Lightscribe successfully, then found that after upgrading to v7.10.x my DVD Lightscribe driver LS_HSI.msi was mysteriously gone. Reinstalled it before my last v7 attempt, without luck, but v6 worked great. Oh well.

Following is back to back successful burns using Nero OEM v6.6.0.10.
Original S/W that came with the HP Lightscribe DVD 840e burner.
Will then do update to 7.10.1.0 and see what happens.
Suppose I could update in steps 7.6.x first, but why not go for it all.
Humm!@ What's with this? Thought I had everything shut down.
Maybe Nero is using up as much memory as it can for buffering?
Maybe it is time to add another 500m memory card, as was suggested earlier.

Nero 6 did burn DVD's however music was no longer sync'd to pictures properly as displayed within Preview. (Music is clipped and starts about 5 seconds into "each" song)
Next: Did Add/Remove on Nero 6. (Not Clean Tool)
Installed purchased version of Nero 7.5.7.0 from CD. (This was my original method when upgrading to v7.10.1.0 and it worked then.)
Will not burn DVD's, aborts part way through transcoding.
Will now do a Clean Tool and try again with v7.10.1.0
Suspect driver issue. One that might be registered but not functional.
Searched for *.txt or *.log files after the abort. No new other than those already posted. No new entries.
Still references installation from v6.

Did a very short slide show...Still aborted. Fan didn't even kick on.
Did a long Slide Show...Still aborted... Did blow out fan... Wow... Thanks... Forgot how quiet this thing used to be. It's nice not having the fan turn on any more, no matter what speed.
Did a complete Defrag on both HDD's. It does seem to have stopped the aborting while creating a slide show...haven't had it occur once since then. Problem #1.
Will attempt to write a file again and also "Burn-At-Once".

You dont have much physical resources to do much of anything.You need to take your machine in and put more ram in.Close down any application that is not essential to the burning side.That means any application running in the background (down near the clock) should be turned off, include in this no net surfing, no virus software, no msn etc.Even if you do all this 512 of ram is still not going to get you very far.Suggest 1 gig , 2 would be better
if i remember correctly 6.6.0.18 is the last stable version.I always had problems with 0.16

Sounds like more memory is a plan.
Funny...I had been burning 35 chapters with ease (all with included mp3 and jpg's) Now I've removed all resident programs but 1 (Antivirus) and 1-2 chapters burn OK in my old program (7.5.6.0) and 7.10.1.0 but 3+ and it aborts. Oh Well...Where Has All My Memory Gone...Long Time Passing.

dvd burning is also a bit more intense, so have you been doing regular defrags of your pc and making sure that spyware and viruses are non existent.Spyware is very good at slowing pc's down and a regular defrag will allow all the accumulated data to be put in a order that will make it easier for your pc to access
