Don't bother with pre-overclocked cards, just overclock them yourself and save the money...

Yeah, to be honest, graphics overclocks aren't usually that great from the manufacturers so it'll make little difference. The only reason to get them is that they sometimes have better coolers than the standard versions.

well the price for the standard one is ten dollars less than the overclocked one. also could it be the temps on the computer that cause it to slow down? i mean we play for hours at a time. the fans are all stocked on the computers. is there a program that can show me the temps?

Yep, Everest is the most comprehensive one, but using Speedfan and Atitool together will bag you pretty much all of the temps, and they're both free, Everest isn't.

Your CPU shouldn't be above 55C in games (preferably below 50)
Your Motherboard shouldn't be above 45C
Your hard disks shouldn't be above 50C (this won't affect your game speed however, it's just a fact)
Your Graphics card core shouldn't be above 95C, preferably well under, but X1950 Pro cards get hot, they're meant to
Your Graphics card VREGs shouldn't exceed 100C.
Your Graphics card ambient shouldn't exceed the 75C mark or so.

Nope, they perform similarly, and you can't compensate for CPU performance by upping the graphics card. Think of the 'A chain is only as strong as its weakest link' idea.

That's about average, not much to be concerned about, it's what it gets to under load that ultimately matters, the idle temperature just gives you an idea of what the load temperature will be.

I'm afraid I couldn't tell you that. Not only have I never sold a PC, but I also don't live in the US, I don't know what the market's like.
However, I can tell you that my CPU is also kept at around 70% in supreme commander, that's the case with most CPUs.

Originally posted by sammorris: However, you may wish to consider the 512MB 8800GT, a new product out, it has a lower power consumption, heat and noise level, and space requirement than the previous 8800s, and is faster than an 8800GTS in most games, in some cases equalling the GTX. It's also cheaper than the GTS.
Didn't spot this post then? :P
Go for it...
