Can anyone confirm that the flash carts (DS simply, R4, etc...) work with this newest version of the DS? I heard rumors about lock out protection. I want to make sure my DS Simply will work ok if I buy the black n crimson. thanks

My friend got one last week, his M3 Simply works fine.

Ok that is great news that there is no lockout protection.
for those that have the new black n crimson unit. I have a test for you.
look at your serial number. Tell me if there is a space before the last digit. If you dont have a space (all letters and digits together) turn your ds on and look at the screen from the bottom up. Tell me what color your screen is.
Those with the space if any...do the same test. Tell me your color.
I heard.....those w/o the space in the serial number have a new screen. But the screen has a tint to it and is not clear like before. Tell me your results.

i can confirm that the R4 does NOT work on a crimson/red and black ds
i just bought one for my girlfriend today and tried my R4 with it, and nothing, doesn't even see the cartridge in the slot
we were able to use my brother's cyclo evolution in it no problem though. and yup, tested the R4 in my ds afterwards, worked perfectly fine
we also tried updating the firmware of the R4 to 1.11 and didn't make a difference
has anyone found a workaround? i was hoping to buy the R4 for my girlfriend but i'll buy the cyclo if i have to, they're just back ordered as i write this

id like to argue against it because just today my cousin came over with the crimson red lite and he has his own r4! they work just fine and everything. i dont know what you guys are talking about, they work fine..

Yup, R4 works perfect on my C/B.

try narrowing it down to what doesn't work. try the r4 with other ds' if possible, and try other ds game cartridges on it, and check if its not the ds slot 1 problem.

yea, i'm using it in my black ds lite, i was going to buy a crimson and black for myself and use my current but this changed everything.

well juno the version for r4 came out like 7/30/07 if u look on the bottom, but if you check when the black and crimson lite came out, it came out later. so there was a possibility it might have not worked. =P but we all know it works now since there are people who have the crimson and obviously show that it works.

ha, i didnt see that, good catch :D and thats a good thing it works cuz i got a C/B and my r4 comes i wednesday
hmm...it also says every revision out to come...so if it didnt work, then you could sue for false advertisement :-P

nah, a couple of my friends had the m3, didn't like it
and a couple of the games didn't work with it
besides, it's the closest thing to the r4, and the r4 doesn't work...
and if i'm not mistaken you need to patch the games (or create the saves with a pc)

m3 is exactly the same as r4. the difference is on the main menu, it would say m3 rather than r4. and the firmware release is also different. there was a thread about this before, and they are EXACTLY the same in terms of how it works.
yes you would have to patch if some games dont work, but usually the new firmware fixes it. but m3 simply is not the only one that needs patching, r4 does also.
