Nokia 1600 Sim Card Registration Failed

Can anyone help me please, my nokia 1600 when i put my orange sim card in the phone it starts up, but then i have no signal at all. I can still get into my old messages contacts etc but cannot make or recive messages or phone calls. It comes up when i turn the phone on (Sim Card Registration Failed) is there anything i can do???

Sounds like you need to activate the card.

You need to call Orange and find out how to activate the SIM.
I assume the phone is an Orange phone.

well the phone is on orange but i got it given to me, my sim card i have had for years. Whenever ive put the sim card in any other phone it works fine, but this one it says (sim card registration failed) i dont know if this means the phone could be blocked? From the previous owner?

If it had a security code on it, I expect it would ask for it.
It could be Blacklisted.
You will have to find out the history of the phone.

How to Check If Your Phone is Blacklisted!!
Different networks blacklist handsets in different ways:

Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or
O2 sim into a blacklisted handset you
phone will not show any signal strength
at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a
"SIM card registration failed" message
will also be displayed.

You could make a call.

It could be stollen.
Nothing more to do.
