So i bought some more ram today, originaly it had 2 sticks of 256mb and i bought 2 512mb sticks to put in place. But now my computer won't load properly it just goes to a blue screen sayin something can't be loaded. But if i use 1 512mb with a 256mb it does load. Any ideas what's wrong?
I have a columbia 2 motherboard if that helps.

Try a 256 and a 512. Could be that your computer has problems with 1GB RAM. What file is the computer actually freezing at? It still could be that one stick is bad. Try to run MemTest86. Its a free download.

I tried a 512 and a 256 together and they work. I run that test on both 512 sticks individually and it passed them both. Also its running an imedia 5094 if that helps. I found this http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=iMedia+5094 and it looks like it should be able to handle 2 sticks of 512.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x00000074 (0x00000003, 0x00000002, 0x80087000, 0xC000014C

I just tried a 256 and a 512 and check the system info and it says 256ram so it weren't recognising the 512. I then tried the other 512 in its place and checked the system info and it said 768. So i'm gonna take the other one back that it didn't recognise and hopefully that will solve the problem. Cheers core2 for your help.

I give up, i took that stick back and changed it for another, windows loaded but then it just switched itself off and back on and got stuck in a loop like this. So i decided to take both sticks back and try a differen't make, this also didn't work the computer wouldn't even load up. I've come to the conclusion my computer doesn't like 1GB of ram. It works fine when its got 768mb but a 1GB. If there's anymore ideas that would be much appreciated but its not looking promising.

Well here i am again...this time though with some good news, i tried a 1GB stick and it worked, in the first slot i tried though it didn't but the second one it did. The only thing i've noticed is it doesn't like being restarted it just goes blank, when i turn it off properly and then on. It works fine, which i can live with.

So it looks like your 2nd slot is bad. If you want you can use the 1GB in slot 1 and use one of your 256's in Slot 2 for a total of 1280MB RAM.

Are you sure, because the link above said mine can only handle a maximum of 1024? I don't suppose it can hurt to try.

I put 512MB in a Dell Dimension XPS R450 that had a max of 384MB and it worked fine so its worth a try.
