I am looking for a free alternative to anyDVD.
The problem is that I found DVD43 not (in most cases) compatible with the ShrinkDVD software.

Why?

Well DVD43 isn't updated much if at all anymore so there are movies it won't handle. AnyDVD blows it away - well worth the $.
But for something like those 2 - the only other alternative is DVD Region + CSS Free but it's not free.

Free wise you can rip w/ DVDFan HD Decrypter then open those files in Shrink.

Just to piggyback...I believe DVD43 is discontinued. DVDFab HD Decrypter is the most excellent freeware out there right now; created by the same makers of DVD43, Fengtao I believe.

@pryme_H
You're right - it probably is discontinued.
I think the story goes that Fengtao did create DVD43 but sometime before or around 2005 stopped and a new developer picked it up.

DVD43 was a great freeware only if they had continued nurturing it. It was one of the first dvd app I was exposed too LOL!

I see at videohelp.com that DVD43 has come out with a new version today.

It only removes CSS and most movies have more protections that that.

Yes I know there is a conflict between AnyDVD and DVD43. I uninstall AnyDVD before using DVD43. But still, no joy!

I think that AnyDVD is the master in the field...

Yes. But Fab is not 'on the fly' like AnyDVD and I suspect that the ripping process is much more longer than with AnyDVD+shrinkDVD

yes anydvd does have that advantage "On The Fly Ripping" But dvdfab decrypter doesn't take long to rip a movie maybe 5 to 10 minutes which isn't bad. if you have to use VOB Blanker or FixVTS before you transcode with dvd shrink it definitely slows you down. nero recode is much faster than dvd shrink. I did Hairspray using clonedvd 2 + anydvd and it took about 12 mins. total. Using dvdfab decrypter and nero recode that same title took about 20 minutes
