Hi, I've been burning dvds for a while now and everything has worked great. All my dvds have burnt at a smooth 4x cuz thats what i set the speed too. A couple days ago I tried to burn something and my speed won't go above .7x. Now everytime I burn anything my speed is stuck at that speed. Burning seems to be taking up more cpu load to but that might be just me. Ive tried defragging my hard drive but that hasnt helped. Also, I am using the same dvds I always have and the same programs too.

First thing to check is your ide settings in device manager. The setting should be set on dma but sometimes the setting will jump to pio and you don't want that. Need help checking just ask. Second, just becaouse you use the same name media doesn't always mean its made by the same people. Did you recently open a new batch of discs. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

I figured it out... the device was going to PIO mode... I just had the uninstall it and it reinstalled it in DMA. I've been using the same spindle of dvds the whole time. I've reada that the device goes to PIO mode when it tries to read something with too many errors... is there any way to make it never go to PIO mode? Thanks for the speedy reply by the way.

Which can also be caused by a burner going bad.

The reviews also help to determine which media gives the best results.
