I have been trying to rip some dvds onto my PC, these dvds were made from xvid / divx rips in the first place, but when I rip them back onto my PC they are noticeably blocky, a lot more than they should be. I used 1000 video bitrate and 128 audio bitrate, that should be enough for a decent rip, shouldn't it? Why are my rips so blocky? I'm using ImTOO DVD ripper.

it's not a codec problem because you've already played divx before, try using ripit4me, i'd bet anything that it's the imtoo software, over time imtoo products gets corrupt and buggy, i hope you saved your registration code, uninstall and reinstall then register, this will probably solve your problem i find my self having to reinstall imtoo software 2-4 times a month, if the ripp doesn't work with ripit4me then post back and we will diagnose any driver/codec issues you may be having

ripit4me is freeware and used heavily by afterdawn users

Yeah, but when I play the dvds in my dvd player they are not pixelated at all, it's only when i rip them back to my pc.

sean111, the best way to avoid this is hold the original file on your computer, reinstall any codec pack/codec you may have, and use different burning software

if you want....
REINSTALL DVD DRIVE DRIVERS
it suggested you boot into safe mode when uninstalling any driver.
mycomputer> right click> properties> hardware tab> device manager> then under the tab CR-ROM/DVD-ROM DEVICES (names will differ), right click on the drive and select the option to uninstall it>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> then restart your computer and once you've logged in windows, it will prompt you install the driver for the drive, if not go to the control panel>printers and other hardware> add hardware, then go back into the device manager and select the option "scan for changes" -err something along that line

-best of lock with dem XVIDS

I tried ripit4me, but i can't figure out how to get it to rip to Xvid. I only see an option to rip the dvd at full quality. How can i rip to Xvid with it?

Note: The SE version cannot rip protected DVDs. If you want to rip protected DVDs please click here to download ImTOO DVD Ripper.--right off the imtoo website

imtoo ripper 4 is what you are probably using can't ripp protected dvds,so if you have dvd you purchased then no go, you need the core version

I looked at that review link and since I havent really heard of any of them programs (from being on AD about every day for a few years) I'd almost be afraid to spend my cash.
Does it have to be a 1-click program? Some people around here like DVDFab Platinum. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Costs about the same as those in the link and does everything you want. Personally, I use free methods such as ripping with the free brother of DVDFab Platinum, DVDFab HDDecrypter then using free AutoGK to convert the DVD file to XVID (or DivX since the pro Codec was being given for free recently :)---It's not 1-click, but still easy and free.

i second Deadrum33's comment, that site
