Ok, im good now. I finally got Pirates burned with no problem. I just followed this guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154#1955171

DVDFab -> VOB Blanker -> FixVTS -> DVD Shrink -> Nero Express is all you need, but unfortuantely its very time consuming. Theres no need of ImgBurn unless u dont have any other burning software.

Had no problem doing it with clone & anydvd, but did learn something this weekend, of course after deleting all the trash the compression was still pretty high, I don't like going under 70% much but on my regular 32" tv it's not bad, but when I took my copy to my neighbors who just bought a 32" lcd samsung, and this thing is not a micky mouse set, it was top rated by consumer reports mag for a 32" set, and watching my copy of pirates it was terrible.

I quickly brought over some movies with about 80% and it was still bad, not as bad as the ladder but still very noticable, I never watched a movie on these new screens, I went over to two other friends, one had an lcd another had a plasma just to go further on these copies, yeah same thing on those also, the copy of pirate was crapola.

I tried my original with clone to see if it could do a 2 disc, not the DL, of course it could do that, don't have any DL's yet, will have to get some now I guess, just hate having to pay that kind of price when doing it on 2 dvd's is so much cheaper, with clone it doesn't have the ability to split it in two not to my knowledge anyway, but I called on another AD member (ZoSoIV) and he guided me to a 2 disc solution using something else, THANKS ZoSoIV.

I went back to my neighbors, watched the 2 disc copy and it was a buete, as great as the original, I really didn't know much at all about all these new sets and came to this conclusion, they shine with perfection, watching anything under 80% you can hang it up, because any small imperfection they greatly enhance, the 3 friends sets I watched over this weekend 2 had HD cable, it was nice, I mean really nice, the last had basic cable and the picture was terrible.

That's why i only use DVD Shrink for movies which are 90%+ compression, anything less i use DVD Rebuilder. Though as i mentioned further up the thread, DVDFab has been breaking DVD Rebuilder lately so i did this movie with DVD Shrink and the quality settings turned on, came out very nice on my 32" LCD (DVD player upconverts to 1080i too). I'll be using DVD Rebuilder on this movie in a couple days once my shiny new Quad Core pc is built, so i can get a perfect picture instead of Shrink's 70%

creaky you kinda lost me on your (once my shiny new Quad Core pc is built, so i can get a perfect picture instead of Shrink's 70%), unless I don't understand something here, how would this have an affect on watching this movie on tv, e.g. making a copy with this new pc your talking about would improve it?

i just mean that i'm not home at the moment, and the PC i have with me takes too long for DVD Rebuilder to run and do it's magic, takes 3/4 hours, that's time i need to use the PC for other things; with the new PC i'll be able to re-encode movies and use it for loads of other things at the same time :)

DVD Rebuilder can work magic with movies and Episodic discs, just recently i used it to re-encode the whole of the latest Battlestar Galactica season, each disc was 44% compression and Rebuilder worked some impressive magic and i have some pretty nice quality discs (to get around to watching)

edited for my usual misspellings

CloneDVD does "split" movies to two discs. That is what the little "sissors" icons are for. If you want to use DL discs, I would recomend using CloneCD with Verbs as the media.

ive tried clonecd to burn with DL Verbs. didnt like it much. wasted 1 disc and the other 2 skipped and had pixels in it around the break.

for me clonedvd2 does a great job with the 8x+r DL verbs.

just my 2 cents

At last, success!, the new Beta of DVDFab (4.0.1.6) did the trick, have just used managed to re-encode this movie with DVD Rebuilder on the files output by DVDFab 4.0.1.6 Beta

Hi,

This is my first post after using and searching this great website for quite a while.

I have issues backing up POC 3.
But unlike what this thread is about, I can't even get my DVD drive to recognize the DVD. When I insert the DVD in my drive, the front led blink for a few seconds and then it's like there is no DVD in the drive.

This never happens before and I tried with other movies and I can play them fine. I'm not talking DVD-R here but originals copies.

My drive is an LG GSA-4163B. It's pretty old but it does the trick (until now).

So why do you think I can't even listen to POC 3 on my PC?

Thank you for your help,

Paul

does it play in your DVD player ok? it may be a bad pressing. try another drive to transcode it of you can or use a freinds PC drive and see if it works there. that will tell you if its a bad pressed DVD or not

Backed up completed. = )

Software used: DVDShrink 3.2 + AnyDVD 6.3.0.0
Backed up to .iso file.

Used NeroImage to mount .iso file.

Burned using: CloneDVD 2.9.1.2
Select 'Copy DVD titles'.

The odd thing is my Plexter DVD writer kept bombing out at 86%.
So I tried using my NEC DVD writer and that worked!

Full menu + bonus features and tested on my Sony DVD player.

Hope this helps.

Backup also successfully completed here.

I also used DVD Shrink (v3.2) and AnyDVD (latest v6.3.0.3) and had no problems. Backed it up to an ISO image file and burned it with Nero. Originally, I was having a problem while using Shrink, Decrypter, or CloneDVD and an older version of AnyDVD.

Why do you need FixVTS?

My preferred and soimple solution is

AnyDVD HD rip to m2ts

Choose/guess m2ts

Tsremux to ts and play/convert at will

I am also unable to backup this movie. I am using Verbatim DL discs and get this error message:

-------------------------

ScsiStatus: 0x02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
Interpretation: Write(10) - Sectors: 0 - 31

Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 12 00 00 00 00 72 01 00 00 00 00 00 01 02 03 04

Interpretaion: Session Fixation Error Writing Lead In

----------------------

Then I got an "Interpretation: Send DVD Structure - DVD+R DL Boundary Information" and "Interpretation: Invalid Field in Paremeter List" message.

Using latest versions of DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 and ImgBurn. Any suggestions?

Thanks.
