thanks sam you've really helped out in the past. ok this is off topic. intel speedstep. what does that do? i have it in my bios but never understood it. also on you showed me a dual core at 2.0 but instead i want to get the core 2 duo at 2.2. is that better?

It's not all about mhz but with the same CPU, the more mhz, the faster it is. If you can afford it, get an E6750.
As for speedstep it's a utility that reduces the clock speed of the processor when it's not being used much to cut power consumption and heat.

He says it's temporary so I don't think he would want to spend 200 on the CPU.

Go with the Thermaltake PSU, and go with the Gigabyte board over the EVGA. Neither are good boards, but since this is a temporary PC, it's a 'get by' option, and I think the Gigabyte board would be better suited.

I would still get the GA-P35-DS3. They have a 90 dollar version, and honestly I don't understand why you would build such a good "temporary" PC. Make something that lasts.

If you're not keeping it, sell it afterwards?

I think the E6400 will overclock higher than the E4500.

I'm not so sure, you've made 3.5Ghz out of your 6400. I can make nearly 3.2Ghz out of my 4300. The 4500 should surely be somewhat higher then...
