Basically there is only 2 things that stand out in your log

Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: <CMC MAG>, Media Type ID: <M01>, Product revision number: 0
These are poor quality discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)

Thanx for that pointless link. I'll lay it out for you. I've been using the discs for awhile, if it were the discs they wouldn't just up and one day stop working, unless they got corrupted. I tested the discs on my roommates burner they work fine. If anyone has something useful to say please post it.

@6tantra9
What's changing pc wise since the burn started to fail? Using the same spindle that worked before or is this a new spindle?

Personally I'm no fan of CMC made media but I can usually get the majority to burn.

I was installing Gentoo and messed up windows, so I had to revert to a backup. I had to install sys-ASPI which I got from here.

http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/scsi_soft/ASPI/ASPI-4.70/

I then did a firmware update forgot the link though, but same thing everyone else used with this problem.

I then un-installed nero 7(clean with nero-tool) and installed 8 still doesn't work.

I made sure all the services were started and aspi layers were correct, and all drivers were up to date and DMA was enabled.

I tried everything I know about windows, so if you find something wrong it isn't going to be noticeable.

Thanx paradox

P.S I know there not the greatest discs in the world, but they have worked for years, so the probability of them up and one day not working are slim to none, and they work on my roommates pc so their not corrupted.

so the probability of them up and one day not working are slim to none,
The reason why we here at AD advise against using these discs are because their method of processing these discs vary greatly and the inconsistancy is evident throughout their manufacture. You may be lucky enough to buy a spindle and have a 100% success rate whereas on the other hand you may be unlucky and get a spindle that's a "mixed bag"...some good and some not so good causing the occasional failure...it appears that this is the case. On a side note I didnt mention anything about your firmware as version 1.22 IS the LATEST for your pioneer.

As for the discs working on your friends comp you would have to consider his comp specs etc to compare.

Try another brand, you've tried everything else....there is NOTHING wrong with your log.

You know I didn't want to be mean, but your a noob stop posting about the media. After I read your post I went next door and borrowed verbatim discs from my friend since he is all into that stuff. I tried burning 5 of them and they all failed. I took the last 3 and burned stuff on my roommates computer no problem. So stfu about the media, because it is annoying. There is nothing wrong with the burner, so don't say that either. The problem lies in the operating system or corrupted file, because that is the only thing that makes sense, since yes there is nothing in the log, and second I've tried everything else. I hate people like you it makes me not want to go on forums and ask for help besides Gentoo, but seriously find me a Gentoo noob :)=. I'm just going to have my friend help me because he doe's advertising editing and troubleshoots stuff like this everyday, and he owes me for setting up a website for him over the summer. I just thought someone would say something useful and helpful. Thanx to binkie7 for trying to help and troubleshoot the problem.

P.S In the future don't post unless you are 100% sure you know what you are talking about, and or you 100% how to get to the bottom of the problem. When my friend fixes the problem I'll post the error and the fix so someone doesn't have to deal with you again. Sorry for being mean but the truth hurts sometimes and some1 has to do it ;).

Thats kool you do that, all I wanted you to do was stop telling me it was a media issue like 5 times, and your 7500 posts don't mean a thing with your addict status. Lets see newbie status with posts in 2 threads, and omg I fixed it what do you know. I disabled the IMAPI service and reinstalled aspi to an earlier version, burned grandmas boy with the so called crappy media at the fastest speed possible with no problems, I then burned windows XP same way no problems, Then Suse 10.3 live dvd oh oh no problems again. My friend then came over, and instead of fixing the problem that was already fixed by yours truly. We smoked a joint and laughed at your posts, and you think your smarter then me ha; I'm a Computer Scientists, so catch up kid. I didn't want to be mean but hell you couldn't stop posting about how it is a media issue, when I already explained to you several times THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE!!! so sorry for hurting your feelings, I truly feel bad and hope you learned your lesson. I have nothing against afterdawn and I'm sure there is some helpful people with insightful fixes for people that I respect. I hope you grow as a person and can better your skillz in the computer world, to help others less fortunate.

P.S sorry for calling you a noob ;)
If a mod can type solved on the thread so people know that the issue has been resolved, or delete I don't. Thanx!

The joint smoking smartarsed "Computer Scientist" is taking a couple days out to reflect/learn how to communicate like a human being with tact, instead of an know-it-all Linux geek stuck in a basement; I also have a geek job, however i know how to communicate, on forums and in real life. 6tantra9 - maybe if you keep off the joints when you post, you'd lose all the smartarse bravado and co-exist with other posters.

Gwen, don't let the idiots get to you

I love people that are so busy telling us how smart they are they forget proper grammar and how to spell. Thats the beautiful thing about natural selection, if that

Computer Scientists
(bwah-ha!) acts half as ignorant in real life as they were in this thread, they'll catch a beatdown and maybe will learn. Karma is a bitch.

BTW isnt paradox the person/crew that hacks software and puts them on torrents? Maybe there was something in getting that crack to run that flipped his ASPI interface.

PS GWEN---i second Creaky's words

Wow, so funny! I would have to say if it was me in this thread I'd be a little angry if someone kept pointing me to a media problem when I said it wasn't. He makes a good point he stated that he has been using the media for 4 years, so it's unlikely that is the case, Which is stated here:

[disks are fine, I have been using them for 4 years, and I tried doing it at 4x.]

He then states again that it is not the media and it was tested on his roommates computer.

[Thanx for that pointless link. I'll lay it out for you. I've been using the discs for awhile, if it were the discs they wouldn't just up and one day stop working, unless they got corrupted. I tested the discs on my roommates burner they work fine. If anyone has something useful to say please post it.]

And then he gives more info on what happened when the error started, and gwendolin still kept pointing to the media issue. And then the problem was fixed that had nothing to do with the media. You guys owe him an apology, because it is you guys you have communication problems . I'd want a computer scientist sticking around on these forums helping people, but thats probably not going to happen since you guys scared him off GG. Oh and what do you have against Linux Gurus, are they not welcome here. I'd watch your tongue, because Linux users are among the elite. Hopefully you can see the error in your ways and admit to your mistakes.

Thank You Pappy (>")> ~+ +~ <("<)

This moderator is a Unix Admin by trade actually, but is not among the elite, i could care less for childish comments from elitist Linux fanboys who can't coexist with normal everyday people; Now off with you, see out your 2day suspension, coming back pretending to be a passing poster just shows you up more.

edit- original poster now banned permanently for being unsuitable for anything other than bantha fodder
