OK so last night I decided that I wanted to rip one of my dvds to a format for my Zune using only free programs that I already had. I first ripped the dvd to an ISO image using DVD Decrypter. I then opened up the image in Dvd Shrink and re-authored it so that only the main movie was used. I was then left with a hard disk folder with 5 VOB files. I encoded each VOB file within Windows Media Encoder which worked perfectly except when I put the files on my Zune and began to watch them, it was not the normal audio but the commentary audio. How do I stop this from happening? I know people have used the same method as described above with success, what did I do wrong?

DVD Shrink lists the audio channels.
Typically the main feature is a large AC3 5.1-ch and the commentary is a smaller AC3 2-ch file.
So selecting the largest English audio should be the title.

yes i tried what you just mentioned today but I had another problem. The audio was slow and distorted sounding and was not in sync with the picture by a few seconds...

Is this distorted audio problem apparent on the output from Shrink (before encoding)?

Try Super, to see if the same problem exists with the audio.

Select 'Microsoft Zune' as the output container, then drag the VOB file(s) onto the lower window and 'Encode'.

i tried super before and used it to encode the VOB to my zune but it seemed like after an hour it hadn't made any progress in converting just the first VOB file. Anyone know if it just takes a long time or anything that could have slowed its progress. For reference the directx filtering was turned off so it wasnt an error.

3. Click the "Setting" and go to menu "Subtitle", Set Subtitle to what you like.

4. Click the "Setting" and go to menu "Audio Track", Set audiotrack to what you like. To 'Output Folder', Enter the full pathname or choose the path where you want to save your video files by clicking 'Output folder'. The default output format is WMV, which natively supported by Zune. You can also hit "Setting -> Output settings", select other output formats you like (MP4, H.264, WMV7/8/9, MP3, WMA, etc.)

5. The converter will automaticly detect the main movie of your DVDs, it will popup with below window to let you make a decision, just keep the setting of "Record from movie start point" and output file size setting, the default setting is the best for good quality and compact output file size, click "Yes" to start ripping DVD to Zune video files.
Tips: You can also just record any part of movie by drag the slide bar to where you want to start, and click the "Convert" button, please select "Record from current time point". This provide you with more flexibility.
