I know there have been a million discussions about blocked ports and how to forward them, etc. but I'm still having problems. I'm trying to run utorrent on my laptop which connected wirelessly through my router. I've forwarded my port through the router and also through my firewall. I don't think it's my ISP, as I didn't have this problem when I was connected directly to the modem. As I said, I followed the port forwarding guides but could there be other router setting that could be causing the problem and need to be changed?

I'm using a Netgear router (WGT624v3), Comodo firewall, and Embarq as my ISP.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you set a static ip address, your router may be changing it if it's dynamic. Use a port over 10,000 that isn't the default at options>preferences>connection and in your router and uncheck randomize port, enable Protocol Encryption: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395674 and see if connecting directly to the router makes any difference. Ensure Windows Firewall is off.

Thanks for the help. I've set up my static ip address on the laptop, used a port over 10,000, unchecked the randomize port and have enabled Protocol Encryption, but I'm still showing as "not connectable" in uTorrent. The one thing I need to try is connecting to my router directly.

I just noticed that I have the option to set a static ip on the router as well. Does that have to match the ip address I set on my computer?

Don't know but the static address you set is the one you forward to in your router.

I've done all of the above, and also connected directly to the router and that didn't make any difference. I'm getting decent dl speeds in utorrent, but it's still showing that the port is not being forwarded properly. I'm not sure what else to do. I've never had this problem before with other bittorrent programs, but can't for the life of me get my ports forwarded for utorrent.

Try disabling UPnP at options>preferences>connection in utorrent. You can also enable both DHT options at options>preferences>bittorrent but only for public sites.

I do not have a Netgear myself, but I have read this at a forum:

"Mine is a Netgear DG834GT. Under WAN Setup, I had to select "Disable Port Scan and DOS Protection" to enable reliable BitTorrent traffic. It seemed that the protection overrode any port forwarding rules. Lots of IP addresses with lots of connections looked to the router like an attack."

I believe it applies to all Netgear modems as it has worked for others that I have given it to in the past.

Hmm....I just connected my laptop directly to my modem (embarq 660) and utorrent still shows that my port is blocked. My patience is running out on this :-)

I believe the 660 is a modem/router.

Ok, so I'm an idiot :-)

I bridged the modem and now all is well. Thank you for everyone that helped out! I appreciate it.
