Does anybody know what the error message. "CDvdcss: read failed" means when trying to encode a movie with DVD Shrink? It also says, "Reason: Data error/cyclic redundancy check"--anybody know what this means or how to get around it maybe? DVD2one is also unable to encode the movie?

This might sound daft but are you trying to encode a region 1 disc and your drive is set to region 2 ??

I guess I'm not sure. I just started burning DVD's a month ago. Every one is just perfect when encoding with DVD Shrink and then burning with Nero. I went to copy one other disc and this message keeps popping up. I have burned probably 25 movies and only two have given me this error messge while encoding. I did have one other one give me an error message about Regions but I cancelled the encoding when I got the error message and then did the back up through DVD Shrink-burned it and it worked fine. With this error message about Read failed and cyclic redundancy, that doesn't work.?????

Oh, I forgot to ask--how do I change the "Region" on my drive?

You mean just start playing the movie with my DVD player and then open DVD Shrink and choose, "Open Disc" and then see if it encodes it?

It should give you an option when you go to play the movie..but you usually only get 5 shots

You might want to invest in a region free patch or software for your drive

Just see if the disc will actually play first in the drive..

If it does dvdshrink should be able to copy it

Hi all. :)

"Reason: Data error/cyclic redundancy check" usually mean the disc is either dirty, physically damaged, or both.
I'd suggest you try cleaning the disc and, if it still cannot be read with DVD Shrink, use DVD Decrypter to rip first. ;)

OK--it's weird, I could not encode with DVD Shrink--it would stop half way through--it decrytped this time fine with DVD Shrink--so I got thinking, I would reauthor and encode half the movie and burn that and then do the other half---the first disc burned fine, the second gave me an error, "Burn failed"--so I thought I would try it again and it worked fine--so I have the movie on two dsics even thought it was plenty small enough to fit on one--weird?

It had to be the disc. I tried another movie in the same series and it burned just fine. Thanks to all for the answers!
