I have now backed up about a dozen of my DVD collection. I have used DDEncrypt and Nero recode with perfect results each time in about 40 minutes. Gone are the "fly by the seat of your pants" days with endless little utilities, constantly keeping them up to dated and the satisfaction of a succsessful backup

But I understand what eddieb means. When I started long ago with VCDs, this was a very inexact science....meaning that a lot of experimentation was needed, and the discussion boards were full of people tryign to standardize the process into an "easy" "step-by-step" solution.

It was exciting and interesting to be trying so many new tools and discovering new ways to do things. But it was frustrating as heck too!

Well, along came DVDx, and the days of wondering, researching, and experimenting were over. When I switched to DVD burning, things were pretty exciting for a while too. It was a mystery that had to be solved and I was constantly researching on new methods and tools.

Now I am settled into my DVD2One/DVDShrink routine and the excitement factor has definitely waned. Its no longer a triumph when a disc works right....but i have more time to watch movies I guess!

Well now it it used to take skill, patience and dilligence... nothin to it anymore.

Of course thats not entirely true, there are still enough little tricks to throw off people though :-)

true, I've now backed up most of my stuff but still come accross some weird ones.
like for instance The Lion King - DVD1, used whatever programs wern't busy and then put the finished article aside, one of the kids was watching it and it played fine for the first 20 mins and then it restarts the movie and plays through perfectly to the end. It should be a simple fix but still it's these little snags you have to watch out for.
and don't get me started on the ones that the pc has trouble reading......

Still, if things are too easy for ya, why don't you try the other programs around, try fitting 2 movies to a DVDr or AVI to DVD or something different.
seriously, if I get bored with the PC I'd have to find a life for myself -- out, out there..., you know... in the real world.......

I started with Playstation and the Dreamcast, not for the money for the fun. I used to give games away!!!

DVD is a bit boring now, we need new challanges. Sky anyone???

If they did not want films copied they would not make it so easy!!!

rah - well if you are really looking for a new challenge again, start backing up your old VHS collection to DVD

- already half way through my collection - This was quite daunting at first but after a lot of trail and error and a few bob on a decent capture box my output quality is very acceptable and I have handed the project over to my 10 year old boy.
