So i bought this beauty last week and im thinking about buying swap magic, what version should i buy? 3.6 or 3.8, i dont want to spend much moen on 3.8, will the 3.6 work with my ps2 .

ps2 slim(silver) SCPH-79001 (yes, 79001 i double checked).

thank you!

oh and i'd like to buy the tools kit, the modern little tools i dont want the flip top (unless they sell silver ones). I wonder if the first tools for ps2 slim dont work with the silver version? anyway the newest tools to swap discs seem much easier and better, but expensive too lol.

Thanks for your replies boys!

Swap magic 3.8 has cheats built in to the CD, otherwise its just the same. I would personally stick to v3.6 if you wont be using the cheats. You will need to install the magickeys2 to boot up your backups.

heres some images on how to install them

I have the same Silver Slim and I can tell you from experience that the magic keys 2 set and Swap Magic 3.8with coder do in fact work with our model of PS2, WELL worth the money too. Also if you're looking for a cheap alternative, there's a straw and card board hack as well (still will need Swap Magic discs though.

why the .iso? it's not like you can just burn it and use it. You'll have to ACTUALLY purchase a copy to work on slim

Why is it that you can't make an exact copy of a PS2 game? Why do you need a boot disc like Swap Magic?

If this not possible, why wouldn't 'they' do the same thing with Retail DVD's?

you CAN make an exact copy of a PS2 game, the thing is you can NOT make an exact copy of Swap Magic, even if you did burn an exact copy of Swap Magic, the slim wouldn't load it because it's a dvd-r and to load a dvd-r you need th ORIGINAL copy of Swap Magic

Have you looked at the bottom of a swap magic disc? You can't copy them because of the way the info is written on them.

if it's codes you want, just get Code Breaker (ass load of torrents for it) the Swap Magic Coder is basically CB codes anyway (and not alot of them might I add)

You can't make what I would call an exact copy of a ps2 game because you will have to use the Swap Magic disk in addition to the backup. My question is why do you need the Swap Magic disk? What isn't burnt with the backup process?

Okay, let's make a comparaison:

LFT IMG: newest PS2 Slim Silver (SCPH-79001) ~ RGT IMG: PS2 Slim ???

There's a little space between the two metal. Do you guys think we can insert part E (instead of part D --> will void warranty)?

Any clue?

I HAVE THE PS2 SLIM AND I OPENED IT N VOIDED MY WARRANTY. I BELIEVE IT HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY, BUT IM PRETTY SURE IT WILL WORK FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. IF U NEED PICTURES OF HOW I BLOCKED THE SENSORS, LET ME KNOW AND I DIDNT BUY THOSE SWAP MAGIC TOOLS, WHICH SAVED ME $10, BUT IM CONFIDENT WITH MY WAY LOL

Yeah, I did the same thing. If you block the sensors it works fine. The magic keys are a rip off anyway. Let me know if you need help

Off the subject a bit now from original post, but after purchasing the magic keys (plastic ones) i have accidentley pushed the one that goes next too the hinge completely inside the console.

I take it i will have too open it now to retrieve the piece back or could i try another?

Do not buy it there...

It doesn't cost $54.

SwapMagic 3.6 Plus only cost about 22-26 USD.

MagicSwitch v3 only cost 4-8 USD

+ shipping fee

thanks for replying and i will buy it from here: http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com/MagicKeys.htm

but my real question is if it will work with ps2 SCPH-79001?
another question is that i have heard that you have to bend a tool slightly to fit it in, how is this possible?

Those in fact DO work with the 79001, only thing that sucks with these and ALL ps2 slims after SCPH-75001, is the USB, for instance say I downladed a code breaker save and wanted to transfer it from my USB flash drive to my memory card, it won't allow me too (this is why Code Majic doesn't work on these slims) **if that makes any sense**

as far as only doing backups with the 79001 ps2, the magic keys (or Ace's cardboard & straw mod) with the ACTUAL ORIGINAL Swap Magic discs do in deed work flawlessly.

As for "bending" I didn't have to bend any of mine, one thing you might want to do though is check out the double stick tape they use, on the set of magic keys I got I noticed that the tape on the #2 key (key that slides the cd switch to the right) had 2 layers of double stick tape on it (basically when you put a disc in the key would rub on the disc causing scratches) so just watch out for that, other than those minor things, the keys work great and are easily removable ect ect

thanks for the reply and as you mentioned i tried the Ace's cardboard & straw mod (my magic keys 2 and swap magic 3.8 have not arrived yet) and it does work. although the 3rd peace gives trouble closing the lid but I'll wait and see how the magic keys 2 work.

For all in doubt: the magic keys will work on ps2 79001 as i have tried the cardboard and straw trick.
