I have a hard disk music recorder made by a company called Zoom. It has a big hole in it for a CD/RW. Zoom do one but it's very expensive and I've heard of people fitting units other than the Zoom one and not having any problems.

My question is, what compatability issues are there with standalone CD/RW units? In other words are they pretty much "one size fits all"?

The Zoom unit is described as ATAPI / 5inch bay type, Buffer Under-run Error Protection Supported.

If anyone can tell me what I need to bear in mind/look out for when buying a unit for the purpose described above I'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.
