What do you guys think of these parts. I'm planning on building my own computer and i'm mainly going to use it for producing music. Not too much for gaming. I'm heading out to college next year. Just tell me what you think overall and what you would take out and put in.

If you're editing music, you'll idealy like it to be quiet. The NZXT case and WD hard drive take good care of that. However, the fans on 8600s are very noisy, and the PC power & cooling PSU despite its name is far from the quietest PSU you'll buy.
I'd recommend finding a fanless graphics card and using a Corsair HX 520W Power supply.
You will also probably want a fan on the Thermalright Ultra heatsink. They cool fantastically well, but usually only with a fan attached which you have to buy separately (most people get annoyed by this, but I think it's good you can choose your own, because the fans included with heatsinks often aren't that good). I recommend a 1200rpm Scythe S-Flex.
The rest of the parts look good, although I can't comment on the sound card as I don't know much about HT.

Id say prety much spot on, the only thing(s) i would comment on are: -
1) Harddrive - may be better to go for a very fast harddrive as the main (c:) drive, such as a western digital raptor (36gb / 74gb) as these are seriously rapid drives. If this is the one you store all your programs and windows on, and use a secondary harddrive for storage of all your samples (d: - about 500+gb). Or you could go for a RAID 0 array for your primary drive to benefit from the speed increase, but be careful as if one fails you loose all info on both. As long as you save everything on the d: you will be ok.
2) Soundcard - Again I know a bit about these, but not much. Just ensure that the card is ASIO v2.0 and that it has a very low latency. Might be worthwhile checking on music production software websites, such as reason and cubase's website to ensure compatability etc.
all in all a good system ;o)

Obviously a Raptor kind of destroys the quietness of the system though. Believe it or not the WD AAKS series is one of the fastest hard drives around, coming close to the raptor in read/write speed. It is also one of the quietest.

I'm not too worried about how loud the computer is going to be. I have KRK 5 studio monitors and a pair of Sennheiser headphones. The only thing I'm really looking for is performance. I need something really fast because i mainly use midi for all of my music. I was thinking of having 2 hard drives (x2 WD 160) one for booting and one for storage. The only other thing im concerned about is the motherboard and is it capable with the ram and the processor. Not too sure about that extra fan for that heatsink though because that case already has 7 fans in it.

If you want speed, mirror a pair of drives in RAID0, or better yet, redundantly mirror four drives in RAID10.

I think i'm just going to have two WD 160. All i need now is your input on the motherboard and if it can hold the 4GB of ram and everything else and the PSU.

160GB drives are old revisions and as such are far slower than newer drives. If you want a speedy PC, at least get the WD2500AAJS. That's what I use as a system drive, and it's pretty fast.

what would be the best combo to get. I only use about 50GB on my 200GB right now. So memory doesn't matter but speed is for the boot drive. Now the second drive i'd like memory but nothing more than 160 or so. And what do you think of the mobo along with everything else ?

If I'm honest, your best solution there is to buy a 37GB Raptor for your OS and the 250GB drive I mentioned for storage. The reason why I stated a 250GB drive is because it's the newer revision of WD drives which are much faster.
The mobo is good, but see if you can find the P35C-DS3R (note the C) instead of that one. That is the exact board I (and a few other forum members) use and it's excellent. The rest of your component choices apart from the ones I mentioned are sound.

Cool. So lets get this right
Thermalright - no need for extra fan because the case already has 8 fans (not 7 sorry)
MOBO - Can hold the Intel Core 2 Quad and the 4GB DDR2 1000
Now just cause i use up 50GB on my old hard drive. Your saying just use the 36GB raptor and install all of the other programs and such on a slave 250GB
Is all that right ?

Not necessarily true. You do need some pressure to get air through a heatsink, even though the fins on the Ultra 120 are quite large. You could probably get away without a fan on it, but since you're running a Quad core, I'd highly recommend getting one anyway, something like an 800rpm S-Flex.
The rest of your post is correct, although make sure you get a new revision slave drive like a WD2500AAJS.

You'll want a DVD drive presumably?
You've also chosen the high speed 1600rpm S-Flex fan, which is a bit noisy, and overkill for your needs. Get the low speed 800rpm SFF21D.

thats right i forgot about the drive. At the time i was going to rip it out of my old hp. No matter I guess that will be it then i'll just get a cheap drive. And i'll lower the fan. Thanks for everything man your the best!

believe me i have built many music proudction pc's.
Check the soundcard is definately ASIO v2.0 or no matter how good the rest of your system is, it will be shite.
Glad to see you took my recommendation on the faster maindrive (c:) and to be honest rather than spend on a RAID array id invest in a second monitor. Much better having 2 side by side on extended desktop when you have your tracks laid out!! I sometimes run it like this when im mastering compsitions, but i tend to use the 2nd monitor for all my vsts so i can tweak them real time.

If you use a DVI to HDMI adapter to your graphis card, then yes. You could probaly also do it with VGA as well I suppose.
