Just a quick question: if I backed up a dvd I had purchased onto a dvd-r, and then lost the original dvd and wanted to back-up the dvd-r onto another dvd-r just to be safe, is there a quicker way to do it? Since it's already deregionalized and decrypted, I don't need to go through that whole process, so is there a much quicker way?

And I have both a cd-rom/cd-burner/dvd-player drive, and a plextor dvd-burner, so if there's a way to just do it from one disc to another at the same time quickly without crashing my (2.6 ghz MSI-powered 512 mb) computer, that'd work too.

1. select the files on the dvd, copy to hard drive.

2. Burn files with burning program

Yep, no ripping or compressing. you could try to do it on the fly but the chances for errors are higher.

I have used Nero to copy on the fly. DVD copy in the menu.

This works great, I recoment doing a CD speed test to the source disk on your dvd player, and bee sure it's speed is more than your burn speed.

example, if the disk starts to read on 4,1x and ends in about 8x, then you are ok to burn it on the fly on 4x speed, if there is a speed drop (going belove 4x) then it is not possable.

Do this only with clean and scratchless source media. this sis risky, but you should learn soon how your computer handels things..

Hope this helps.

In Nero, you can also make a image file, and then burn, with a single click, but that takes about 10 minitues longer

You can also use the dvd copy mode in Nero, but click on copy options and uncheck the on-the-fly box, this will burn a temp image onto your hdd, eject the 'master' copy, then burn temp image to blank disc. hope this helps.

instantcopy (by pinnacle)

put 1 dvd-r in dvd drive and other in DVD writer, and burn.
or rip to HD and then burn.

or
try any burning software to burn a dvd copy,
i tend to use instantcopy as the copys work 99.95% of the time

If it's <4.35g and you have only the burner you can use DVD Decrypter, ISO read then Write.

Ripster01, what do you recommend in place of Nero Express, or even Nero?

In my opinion, you could use almost every single DVD-writing software that is compatible with your drive. To play it safe, do a DVD-HD-DVD burn (about 10minutes longer) or if you are ready to gamble and you have a clean unscratched source disk, do DVD-DVD direct (on-the-fly)

What files should I copy? I just gave it a try and copied the two directories, Audio_TS and Video_TS, to my HD, and then copied the directories to a DVD using Roxio, and successfully made a coaster. Should I just copy the individual files instead?

(And I'm using Nero next time, not this Roxio crap that wanted to change the format to "make it readable"...yea, that helped).

If you can reply ASAP that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Alright, I just tried Nero's copy disk option as well. The options were already set-up appropriately, so I clicked burn to hd. About half way through it failed. I noticed that as I ejected the disk, the temporary file it was creating was deleted. Did I accidentally set it so that it was suppose to burn on the fly? I only have one drive hooked up to my computer at the time, and it appeared that Nero was reading that because it only had one drive selected, but I'm not sure why I'm receiving this error. At first I thought it was because I was using a couple other applications at the time, but the second time I tried, I left everything alone and it still happened.

Good thing I have this newbie title... I was trying to copy a coaster. So ignore that second response I just made, although I still have the first question.

If you only want the main movie backed up, I suggest you rip the movie to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter Version 3.1.9.0. Next you can use Pinnicle Instant Copy 8 (main movie only feature) to copy that movie to a DVD-R.
