I've searched...I feel like a blind dog in a meat house.
Is there a guide or link for TMPGEnc DVD Author on this site? I've looked at it's Help but would like to see a guide by someone who has 'been there, done that.'

That guide will get me a bit more familiar with the program. It's written to show how to add VOB files and make a DVD with a Menu from an already ripped DVD5/9 or a DVD10 - combining the files of two discs.
I'll follow it then see if I can make a DVD from my AVI and DIVX files.

Hey RWG,
You need to convert AVI/DivX files to DVD-compatable MPEG2 files before you can author them into DVDs via TMPGEnc DVD Author. Afterdawn recently posted a guide for AVI to DVD:

Im trying to use TMPGEnc DVD author, following the guide, not having too much success. I first used Shrink 3 to rip and compress, then used TMPGEnc to add a menu. I sent the files to my empty DVD Work folder on my hard drive. I did recieve a warning that the results would be to big to fit on a disc however I had planned to run them through Shrink and do just a small amount of compression. (as shown in the guide.) When I opened Shrink I got "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue- the error is Cannot Decrypt VOBS". So I closed everything out, deleted those files and ripped with decrypter in the file mode and tried those in TMPGEnc. Same problem but also got a "combined audio and video bitrate to large" error. Got the same "cannot decrypt VOBS" error with Shrink. The guide made it look easy! Has anyone done this using the guide?

Easy Answer, once I found out how to do it. What I do is use Nero to develope an ISO file. Now I I use Daemon Tools and mount the image ISO file. Finally, I use DVD Shrink to reduce the size of my project. Believe it or not, it is harder to write the method down, then doing it.

Hi Daytrader,
I did manage to get one movie through T-DVD author (swordfish) but I got the same "combined bitrate" error with the Fast and the Furious. You didn't mention if you used TMPGEnc DVD author, or if you just found a way to avoid using it. hehe!
Can you explain how you developed an ISO file with Nero?

Hi Fasfrank
Sorry, I was in a bit of a rush, so my explanation fell a little short. To develope an ISO file in Nero, I change the Recorder of choice to the image recorder. I then proceed as I would always do, except now Nero will ask where to save the file, you can then save the file in any location of your choice, and also give it another name, and a choice of formats .. being .nrg or .iso etc.
As far as the bitrate error in TMPGEnc DvD Author, click on ignor and proceed as normal. The pgm will also warn of creating an out of standard DvD, once again click on to proceed and let the pgm develope the needed files. It is then that Nero comes into the picture, you run Nero ( I never run the Express Wizard ) and go through the above instructions. Once again, the key is to change your Recorder option to the Image recorder selection. In this way the image recoder will save the file as an ISO. Daemon Tools simply creates a virtual DvD Drive, and allows you to mount an ISO image. Now, DVD Shrink will work with the image file without a problem. Believe me, it is a lot harder to write in out then to do do.

Hi Guys,
the bitrate error in TMPGEnc DVD Author that sometimes comes about when adding a dvd video is a result of the program adding the audio bitrate TWICE when calculating the combined bitrate - if you are using clips from existing VOBS you can safely ignore the warning.
Proceed and the program will create a valid structure.
But if you get that warning from the inclusion of any other media file it IS A REAL WARNING...
I am doing lots of playing around with it, multi-layer menus etc. etc.
