Hi, newbie here, just joined today. Glad to have found this site.
I have a video file about 2hrs and 36 minutes long in avi dvix. I tried burning onto dvdr, got the msg "need dvd 9 disc" because it was too long. But, it gave me the option to burn using superlong play with detetriorating pic. quality. Anyway, i was able to burn but the pic quality was horrible and my receiver (yamaha dolby digital 5.1) could not detect the multichannel. May i ask, how can i fit the video file onto 1 disc while maitaining the digital vid. quality or if i have to i don't mind burning onto 2 discs? The dolby digital is very important to me when playing back using my toshiba dvd player.
Would very much appreciate any and all help.
Thanks,
azzy

What did you use to convert the avi into your DVD files? Vision? From there, if the file is too big, you could use DVD Shrink to compress the movie enough to fit onto a single SL disc. How big is the new folder?

Thank you for your reply. I used nero express to burn. Sorry, still new to all this, what folder would you be talking about?
Thanks,

You have to convert your avi to a DVD compliant file with a program such as Nero Vision, but I prefer DVD Flick or ConvertXtoDVD...from here you should have a VIDEO_TS folder, if it is bigger than what will fit onto a DVD-5 you will need to use DVD Shrink to compress the folder enough to fit onto a single SL disc.

Here is a DVD Flick guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/552742

And a DVD Shrink guide: http://dvdshrink.info/fulldisk_basic.php

LocoEng, thank you for the reply.
Do the video files in avi format have 5.1 dolby digital and when you shrink the video file or burn the file can you still have digital audio, i guess it would be called ac-3?
Thank you,
Aazy

Hi Loco, thinking about the avi video files i have downloaded, the one i am thinking about has virtually nothing to cut save the credits, well i suppose if dolby 5.1 is encoded then i may be able to cut out the french and spanish but it would still be over the 4 gig limit. Would i still be able burn on a regular dvdr?
Thanks,

A DVD-5 will hold 4.37 gigs....you can import DVD Flicks VIDEO_TS folder into Imgburn in "build" mode and it will tell you what type of disc you need to use i.e. DVD-5 or DVD-9. If it tells you you need a DL disc then import it into DVD Shrink and compress it enough to fit onto a disc.
