How do I burn a movie file to a dvd-rw

I downloaded a movie file from kazaa. I am wondering how to burn this video onto a dvd-rw disc. I have a few dvd writing programs, but none of them allow me to even view the movie file to write it to a disk. I have heard I need to convert it into a different format. What software do I need to use? Thanks.

I'm attempting to do the same with AVI and DIVX files using TEMPGEnc DVD Author. Go to www.afterdawn.com and look at the guides area for your particular file format.
