DVD Decrypter is a very fine program in it's own right an many here use it faithfully w/ other compression apps like DVD2One.

DVD Shrink does remove all the anti-copy routines from a dvd ripped by it. It will also make it to Region-free.

The choice is yours. Myself, I use DVD Shrink to rip and compress in one pass and Nero 6 to burn DVD-Video.

Hi spruk
I also use DVD Decrypter to rip my DVDs to ISO mode. From there I can either burn single layer discs from decrypter or mount to ISO image via Nero virtual drive and use DVD Shrink to reduce the movie to one disc. By using this method I can reduce the time the DVD player is running. I gain speed in processing because the virtual drive transfers data faster than a DVD Rom. Everyone who makes copies of their movies use a different method. Why because the gear that we use is different requiring a tweak to achieve our desired results

why are you doing that? You don't need a virtual drive for shrink, you can click on open files and compress that. Or even quicker, you can just use shrink to rip and compress and save a couple of steps. That would probably be quicker than the workaround.

Hi yuedana
I did a speed comparison of a movie in the virtual drive vs my DVD player The speed of the virtual drive was a least 3 times as fast as the DVD rom drive. The time needed to process the movie through DVD Shrink is shortened and there is less wear and tear on the DVD drive

you still don't need a virtual drive. Yes, it is faster to shrink without ripping from the dvd, but you still have to rip from the dvd once (with decrypter). what I am saying is if you want to use decrypter first, you can rip the files to the hard drive and then shrink the files without having to create a virtual drive.

Your process
1. rip with decrypter in iso
2. mount to ISO image via Nero virtual drive
3. compress with shrink
4. burn with nero(?)

My process
(1. rip with decrypter)
2. rip/compress with shrink
3. burn with Nero (I use recordnow)

Now I will admit that step 3 in your process is quicker than my step 2, but only if I rip with shrink also. But you have to have some wear and tear on the dvd drive to rip the dvd in the first place, be it decrypter or shrink---both of which rip in the same time frame.

yuedana ....so why then cant we do away with decrypter and just use shrink then recordnow or I use copy to dvd...I have now tryed this process and it worked fine in just 2 simple steps.

you can. I only use decrypter if shrink is incapable of ripping a disc (it happens occasionally). That is why the ripping with decrypter is in parentheses and step 2 is rip/compress with DVD Shrink.
