OK, the case isn't ideal, but it's workable since you're not using a high end graphics card. You will have to ditch the appalling power supply it comes with though in favour of something decent like a Corsair HX 520W.
If you're going to do video editing, I'd recommend a Quad core CPU. Otherwise, a fast dual core like an E6750 will do. As for how to overclock it, see our own official overclocking thread.
Here's an example parts list

Having two ethernet ports means you can connect to two different networks at once, or bridge your network connection to another device.
As for the RAM, I recommend

As it stands right now, I don't think DDR3 is worth bothering with for the average person. It's too expensive for the minor performance benefits. At least with that board you have the option to upgrade later.

The newegg reviewers are idiots. I've recommended that board to many people on the aD forums, nobody has had any issues with it. I own one myself and it performs faultlessly. If you severely mess up an overclock it can potentially reboot itself continuously, but that's never happened to me, and it wouldn't happen by itself.
As for that motherboard, it's a lot of extra expense for no useful gain. It allows SLI, but that's about it really. The included BIOS for it is also terrible, as it is with pretty much all Abit boards. That's not a problem Gigabytes suffer from.

I have that motherboard, and it restarts on me... Only when I try to take the CPU to 4.2 ghz!

Seriously it's a very solid board, I've even done 4Ghz on it! No problems. I would say Core 2 Duos tend to cost LESS than Quads, I don't know where you are getting your prices from.

I can only assume you mean the E6850 and Q6600. The reason for that is that the 6850 is the fastest dual core available, and because it sits at the top of its market it attracts a far higher price. It may be only 25% faster than the Q6600 in dual core applications, but because it's one of the highest overclocking processors there is, it has a high price tag.

That depends on whether you can make use of four cores or not. If you will only ever use two, then of course the E6850 will be a 'faster' CPU, but if you do things such as video editing then a Quad core will prove beneficial.

Well most programs don't use all four cores. The best most programs are coded for is 2 cores, so it will just be like a dual core running at 2.6 ghz.

The second one is cheaper and better in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY!

The one before is more expensive because it's an old processor and the price was never dropped. They just started making the new CPUs for a lower price. DO NOT get the E6700!

It sucks. Simple as that. Honestly the BEST AMD X2 cpu cant beat the CHEAPEST core 2 duo just because the Core 2 Duos can overclock so much.

The cheapest Core 2 Duo comes in 1.6 Ghz and can be overclock to 3.0-3.2 Ghz easily.
