I am looking for any advice on speeding up my laptop for playing Sims 2.

I have an Advent 7113
Vista Premimum o/s
Intel Celeron M430 1.73ghz
1 GB Ram
80gb hd etc etc

I know the memory is enough but is there anyway to optimize what resources I have so that my game will run smoothly?

I keep everything up to date like and even optimised my SATA HD to help a bit but i'm at a loss. Thanks

Unfortunalty "The Sims 2" takes up a lot of ram, and typically one gig of ram with most other games would suffice, but for faster loading times and possibly a little better play I would either trying expanding your ram to two gigs, (2x 1gig sticks) or downgrading your operating system to windows XP. Vista aswell likes to hog ram.

If you are refering to specificly the graphics aspect of the game, this will be almost impossible to improve, seeing as you have a laptop. Typically you would just be able to upgrade the video card.

There are also programs that can suggest subtle improvements to your OS (operating system) as to improve the overall preformance of your lappy, I personaly prefer TuneUp Utilitys 2007.

Hope this helps you out abit.

if that celeron is a dothan
then you could do the 400mhz fsb --> 533mhz pin mod

I would advise against the pin mod, not only will it only work with very few select notebooks (there's more to it than simply having a Dothan type CPU) but it could also potentially cause you cooling issues. Additionally, the CPU you have is plenty fast enough for playing The Sims 2. Unfortunately the problem is actually with your graphics accelerator, which in a laptop is impossible to upgrade. You will have to either live with the low performance or buy a new laptop. They're your only options I'm afraid.
