That pc isnt that bad, not sure if i would pay that much for it but it has the second fastest duel core that AMD makes, 4 gigs of ram and an 8600. Although the 8600 isnt that great of a card for playing high end games, it isnt that bad either.

The guy is also giving me the option of an ATI Radeon HD2600 512Mb. Is that better than the 8600 256Mb?

According to some of the things i have read i would go with the 8600, apparently it is better for playing graphical games.

Just a suggestion. :-)

Yes, the 8600 has a tiny advantage in fps over the 2600.

Honestly? I wouldn't buy it, at least try to get a decent C2D in there. With a decent motherboard you could do wonders with it.

Also please don't pay 500 for Vista, it not worth it and it's much worse than XP(which can be had for free *wink* *wink*).

Yes, it is a rip off, pure and simple. It's not a bad PC, but it's still hideously overpriced.

He said he could reduce the price by 250$ if I dont take vista. also, what does the motherboard make a differnce in the performance of the computer. I asked about it and he said it was an ASUS M2N-E. Is that good? Also, why is intel Core 2 Duo better than the AMD processor he is giving me?

The core 2 duo is just a better performing processor. It's like asking why is a Pentium 4 better than a Pentium 2, well because it's a better chip.

Also if you have a bad motherboard your PC wont work properly. If you have a low quality motherboard your PC wont perform as well. With a good motherboard you can also overclock more.

Most of the time it doesn't make that much of a difference, although how efficiently the board is laid out can affect performance somewhat. The main concern is over reliability though. Asus boards aren't bad, but you can do better.
As for the $250 off and XP, that makes it a much better deal. I prefer XP to Vista a lot, and the cost saving makes the PC, whilst not good value for money, at least no longer terrible.
Most of the cost of the PC is in the Blu-Ray disc drive, do you really need it?

well, it was the blu-ray drive that got me to look at it. I want it, but at least I want it to play HD-DVDs. Are those drives a lot cheaper?

Umm a Bluray drive wont play HD-DVDs. Honestly I would suggest building it yourself. I takes maybe an hour to put one together.

And by that he means the PC, not the Bluray drive lol.
But yeah, Blu-ray drives can't play HD-DVDs, and vice versa. Seriously, I'd stick to your TV for watching HD content. There are of course slightly less legal ways of grabbing HD material which don't require a disc drive at all, I'll leave that to your googling skills... :)

But yeah, if you can build a PC yourself, do it, seriously. It's so much better value, and you can get a proper performing system (i.e. no Athlon X2 rubbish - not for that much money anyway!)

I meant that if I had Blu-ray, I wouldn't need it to play HD-DVDs but if it is cheaper, I could get an HD-DVD drive.

Seriously, think hard about whether you want either, last time I looked they were hundreds of dollars versus about $25 for a decent DVD burner.

Just get a PS3. Then build yourself a decent computer. Seriously these bluray drives are more expensive than a PS3! You can get a new 40GB ps3 for 350 if you look around.

That's true. Maybe I can switch the Blu-ray burner for a DVD burner and ask for a better graphics card. Maybe I could get an 8800GT or 8800GTS. That would probably make it a better deal. Maybe there is a cheaper ATI card that is good too?

Much better than the GTS, but on par with the 8800GT, expect of course it has better image quality than both those cards.

It's miles better than the 8800GTS, about the same as an 8800GT.Bear in mind these are 8800s, not the slow-ass 8600 in your original specification.
@Abuzar: Don't forget this is in Canadian dollars, so take prices from somewhere like NCIX, not Newegg.
