even for an older pc, you still need more than $100 for a decent gaming card.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

what is the make & model# of the computer or motherboard to see what you have for expansion slots like pci, agp(2x,4x,8x) or unlikely pci/e 16?

Lets see... Well PCI-E 16x is the cheapest cards you can get. For under a hundred this is what you're looking at. Used to be a GREAT card(for its money) once upon a time...

Under $100.00? After the mail-in Rebate this DDR3 8600GT is $89.99

You didn't mention your interface, this card uses PCI Express X16.

If yours is an AGP interface I'd go for one of these at $104.99:

Driver availability is sketchy, AGP cards are not that well supported, at least not by ATI.

Considering the 7600GT is almost as fast as the 8600GT id just go for that. After all it IS 50 bucks, and it seems he wants it for his back up PC. What if his PC doesn't even have AGP, that would suck...

That's a PCI express card, try to pay attention...
As for the card you should buy, I'd also agree with a 7600GT, but make sure your PC has a half decent power supply in it. A bog standard OEM 200W one isn't going to cut it.
7600GTs seem to be a bit tricky to find for under $100 these days, so how about one of these?

im1992, that card sucks and is PCI-E.

The 6800XT is a little more underpowered than the 7600GT. You can get a AGP 7600GT for around 25-30 bucks more.

You know what I suggest? Don't bother. How many times does a main PC mess up? I don't think it will be a big deal to go without games a few days, the fresh air might even do you good in case you decide to go outside lol.

If it's a PC you have to do work on though, and it has no integrated graphics, then I see why a 'spare' GPU may be useful, but in all honesty, it's not something I would usually recommend doing, I've never had a graphics card go wrong on me, your best bet is to find a cheap office throw-out PC and use that as a backup if anything goes wrong with your main system.

If it's just a PC to do work you can get old AGP cards for around 20 bucks on craigslist.

If you do that though, make sure you get them for the correct version of AGP, you want newer 4x or 8x cards. The older version of 4x, and 2x speed cards use different voltages to the newer ones, don't trip up on this or you may damage the card or your motherboard.

Make sure it's AGP. Most of them were PCI-E.
