Ok, so I have no idea what i'm doing anymore. I just got my new WD Raptor 74 and i want to install XP on it. I have a old WD 200gig that also has XP and all my flies on it. No idea what to do with BIOS, i've read around and found out that i have to do something with F6 and a floppy drive. I don't have a floppy drive. I've played around with it and i got XP installed on the Raptor without F6 or anything else, BUT when i'm trying to run the Raptor as the master drive it says disk read error then restart by pressing ALT+CRTL+DEL Please HELP!

MoBo = Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P

Unplug you old data drive, for safety, then plug in your new one, pop the Windows disc in the cd rom drive and boot up your pc. It should read from the disc, so then just follow the on screen instructions.

boot from CD, not the raptor since you said that you need to install an OS on that drive.

i tried that too but it didn't work. I know the driver works cause when i put in the xperss recovery disk it works. I think i have xp installed on the Raptor because i can see the WINDOWS folders(also the program files etc.) when im booting on my old 200 gig. But i don't know why it's not booting.

Reinstall Windows on the Raptor if you don't need whats on it. If you see just a Windows folder, then its not a complete install.

^^Umm, no... I had that same problem when I was installing Vista on my WD Raptor on my old pc. Had basically the same problem, the computer wouldnt boot from the cd drive. I swapped out the drive with a newer one, and it worked. I was trying this on a older CD drive from my parent's busted computer, and I guess the drive was to old or something. But swapping it out for a newer one worked...

boot with your 200gb and run all the tests with this software on the Raptor.

Also run "Write Zeros" and then do a Full Format through the Windows XP disc.

Before all of this, try another Windows XP Disc. If you have a legal copy of the disc currently, you should be able to download another copy of the disc, from where I will not say.

It works on any drives. Just be sure that the install on your 200GB will fit on your 74GB Drive.

Worth a try, if that doesnt work then try a WD utility. Just search HD Cloning.

OK so i've given up on moving XP. Now i have another problem. The disc i was installing was XP Pro. Now my 200 gig has both XP Home and Pro and it runs pro frist. I have to wait for it to boot and press down to get to Home. How do I delete Pro off my hard drive ?

Format that partition or edit the Boot.ini file telling it to always boot XP Home.

The problem with your raptor is probably a drive letter change problem. It happens with windows xp, when you move a partition from one drive to another. The system drive letter needs to be c:.

use this demo to verify the drive letters on a non-booting hard drive.

To edit your boot.ini file in xp go to control panel/system/advance/startup and recovery/system startup/edit.
Just remove the line that deals with windows xp pro.
