I have a loved and cared for ATI 9800 pro, until my Christmas party when I had the copper coil thing break off it.

Now, I taped that back on and the card worked fine until the tape wore out and the thing fell off while the card was in use. Now, the card works for normal things but as soon as I start NFSU-2, a game that did MAX on this card, it now shows me all artifacts and crashes the computer. Is there any way I can revive this card? Maybe resolder the thing back on the card? A place that would fix the card for me? I really don't want to lose this card.

Wow, I guess I would try to solder it back on, worth a try isnt it if its overheating now. Just remember to use as fine a tip soldering iron as poss since its gonna be a fiddly bas****.
What about underclocking the card?

I'll try underclocking the card using Riva Tuner but then its the same thing as using my XFX 5500 which is what I don't want. Any places that might fix this card for me?

maybe a computer parts shop that sells old parts. but most likely you have to do it yourself.

Just did a Quad core build and bought this video card for it because I don't game that much:

1. Is that a good price at $27?
2. Is the memory clock 800 MHz or is it 1600 MHz since it is DDR2, where I multiply my memory clock by 2.
3. For a Nvidia 6800 GTO, Riva Tuner reports the clocks as 350x900. Do I multiply the memory clock here by 3 since it is DDR3 memory?
I am confused about the multiplying to find memory clocks thing.

Manufacturers usually state the rated speed rather than the actual speed.
As for the other card, river tuner reports the mem clock at 900 because thats the frequency its actualy running at. DDR3 is the next evolution in memory and may have more bandwidth, I dont know? but is still DDR - Double data rate, same as DDR and DDR2. Otherwise it would be TDR - Triple data rate (doesnt exsist).

No the "effective" clock speed is still 1600Mhz. Thing of it as a CPU. At 500Mhz but with a multiplier of 8 you get 4Ghz. Thing of DDR as having a multiplier of 2.

My 6800 isn't there since its the lower end Dell OEM version (350 x 900) so I'll just have to wait and see how it is.

Yeah but the X1650 you bought is on there. Also DDR means you have a multiplier of two, because DDR stand for DUAL data rate. It doesn't matter whether is DDR, DDR2, or DD3, it's all multiplied by 2.

Ok the memory they use with video cards is GDDR, and system memory is DDR. Regardless they are more DUAL data rate. This applies to all memory that proclaims itself as being DDR.

Ok, I got the X1650 and I am the performance of it is not up to what I had thought. It is unable to play NFSU-2 at Max with a 1280x1650 resolution. Why is this, is this a bad card? ATI Control center also says the clock speeds are 500x270. Why?

The X1650 pro is a very underpowered card. Expecting it to play an unoptimized game like that at max is just expecting too much. You should have gotten a real video card if you wanted to play decent games at decent settings with it.

Ok but then again for 25 dollars don't expect it to be great. It's like you're complaining it sucks, and then you're like it doesn't suck because it was so cheap.

I just thought it would be better and since it can max out GH3 at 1024x768, why cant it max out NFSU2 and why are the clocks reported wrong. Should I uninstall all drivers and reinstall it? The drivers were just updated from a 9800PRO.
