I used to convert downloaded avi movies to dvd format using winavi converter, then I burn the entire dvd to dvd using nero recode 2. It used to work successfully everytime. 10 days ago I used nero to burn an iso image for a wii game. It failed burning near the end. Afterwards whenever I try to burn a dvd to another dvd it fails to write to disc at the very begining. ( the program imports the video_TS first, then it fails to burn it). I use imation DVD+R as always. Here is the error log file I get:

Help please! I damaged 10 dvd's trying over and over again ang I got too frustrated trying to find a reason for this. Did the wii game that failed burning has anything to do with this? I also tried buning the dvd using winavi video converter, it burned successfully, but when I tried to play it, it didn't work on dvd player or computer.

I don't think burning the Wii game had anything to do with it.
So here's some other suggestions:

Imation uses different manufacturers so you never know who you will get. The ones you using now are bad by TDK - ok but may not be compatible w/ your drive. So I would try different media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

Direct burning: true
Turn this off. Let Nero transode the file 1st then if there is a problem transcoding you won't have a coaster. In Burn At Once/Direct Burn Nero transcodes and burns at the same time.

Nero API version: 7.0.1.4
Update Nero to the latest - 7.10.1.2

File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS'
Roxio and Nero don't always play well. So you can uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool

Thank u very much for your help. I tried turning of Burn at once, the dvd was encoded successfully and the burning started and continued until it failed near the end: Could not perform end of Disc-at-once, PMA update failure, Session fixation error.

I'm downloading nero update right now. I'll also buy new dvd's and try to burn the project again.

I'm sending the log file so that another reason for burning failure could be clear. What is Pma?

PMA is Program memory area update failure - still a pretty generic failure error.

Try the different media & Nero update.

The Roxio driver is still installed so I would try removing that too (see my post above).

Physical memory : 502MB

Free physical memory: 74MB

Memory in use : 85

In this log you also have 85% of your memory in use. So no multitasking and close any unneeded programs.

If you haven't very recently do this pc maintenance too:
Disc Cleanup
Disc Defrag
Registry Cleaner - here's a good free one - ccleaner. Use the issues & cleaner options.
Virus scan

Hi binkie7
Thank you so much for your help. I bought new dvds Gigamax and I've uninstalled roxio using the link u gave me. I don't know how roxio was installed in the first place?? I tried burning the same project again and it worked. It burned successfully, so I'll throw the rest of the imation package in the basket, because of the frustration and lost time that it caused me. So thank u again for having the time to help me.

Shimo2007:

Just a tip for the future. Don't use WinAVI, it's shoddy and gives you a lot of out of sync video/audio

Try DVDFlick, it's 100% free, easy to use and very high-quality.
Here's a link: http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php

I used to convert avi files using nero vision. It gives a very high quality dvd. The problem was that if I play it on a dvd player, the picture freezesin the last quarter of the movie. I tried it with many movies so many times, that's why I used winavi converter. The picture isn't high quality as nero's but the movie never freezes. Any idea why that happens? By the way the dvd that's converted using nero vision works fine on the computer and never freezes !!!
I've got another question: From where did I get Roxio driver, if I haven't installed it on my computer?
I'll give dvdflick a try and I'll let u know. Thanks for your help.

The Roxio driver comes w/ a few other programs. Sonic & Record Now are Roxio products and there are some other programs that use it - just can't think of them off the top of my head right now.

The freezing at the end can also be caused by poor quality media - poorer quality media tends to get worse towards the end of the disc.
That might be the cause here.
Plus the upgrade of Nero could have helped too if the freezing was due to Nero's transcoding - several fixes w/ the version you were using.

It will not reencode. Use Nero Burning Rom:

@shimo2007
What was the problem with the serial #?

You might want to try a clean install - uninstall nero using the clean tool (in the downloads or support section of Nero's site). Reboot then try reinstalling.

@ahmedz123
No hijacking someones else thread. If you still need help start a new thread with your problem. Makes things so much less confusing and rules too.

I tried to convert movies using dvd flick. I didn't like it. The features in win avi are much better, the video is also better.

I don't know what version of Winavi are you using, but I used some version 7( before I found the Flick). I can say that DVD Flick surpasses Winavi( same video converted). Of course, in DVD Flick I used the high quality settings. The new version of DVD Flick adds lots of improvements, including option for menus.
It is all about user prefferences, but I will never go back to Winavi.

Hi binkie7
Do u think that nero 8 is better than nero 7, that the problem with the freezing of the picture could be solved by using nero 8?

I have to agree with Cyprus there..
WinAVI is a horrible program.

I used to use it too, it never synced the audio/video correctly and the quality is far below DVDFlick's standards. When I compare movies created by WinAVI to my DVDFlick ones they look like garbage. My guess your not using the correct settings.

Open Up DVDFlick> click on Project Settings>
Click on the Video Tab> Set Encoding Profile to Best>
Make sure the Target Bitrate is set to Auto-Fit>
(the best option if your not too familiar with bitrates and so on..)
Next click on the Burning Tab and tick Create ISO Image, Burn Project to Disc, and Delete ISO Image After Burning.

Select the burner you wish to use, give your DVD a label and your done. Burn a movie and tell us how it goes..
