Hi everyone,
I've spent hours searching various forums on the net for a problem I'm having with InCD, but no luck yet. I'm hoping someone here can help.
On my desktop computer, I am running InCD 4.3.23.2 -- an older version, I know. For at least two years, I have been formatting and erasing DVD+RW and -RW discs with it, and copying files on them, without any problems at all.
Today I tried to erase a DVD+RW disc, and I noticed that the 'Start' button is greyed out. It's also greyed out if I try to format the disc.
I tried to erase the disc with Nero Burning Rom (ver 6.3.1.10) under 'Recorder -> Erase Rewritable Disc' but Nero gave me the following error message: This disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc.
I then tried the exact same DVD+RW disc in my laptop, using the same version of InCD, and it formatted just fine. I then tried to erase it, and it erased just fine.
I decided to try to install the newest version of Nero (the demo version) and InCD on my desktop. I used the General Clean Tool provided by Nero, to make sure I completely uninstalled the old version before installing the new version. That did not solve the problem. I still could not format or erase the disc.
I tried 2 other discs, and had the same problem. I tried both of those in my laptop, and they both worked just fine there.
I uninstalled the new version of Nero and InCD, and then reinstalled the older version. Still didn't work.
I discovered that I did not have any ASPI drivers on my computer, except the one that Nero installs, so I installed them. Still didn't fix the problem.
I made sure I had the most up-to-date firmware on both of my DVD burners.
The two burners I have, and the problem:
Sony DRU-800A -- It will read an RW disc with data on it, but it thinks it is a DVD-ROM. I tried one that was already formatted, and had data on it. It would read the data, but it would not let me write new data to it.
Plextor PX 708A -- It will not even read an RW disc. The light on the front of the drive just flashed on and off, but it never comes up in Explorer.
If anyone here can offer any suggestions, I would be grateful. I do not know what else to try.

First off Nero itself can erase discs, you don't need that InCD crap. Just open up Nero Express, press the arrow button on the left hand side to open up the advanced features and select "Erase Disc".
Secondly, word of warning, InCD is a load of shit in my opinion. It uninstalls all your ASPI Drivers for you DVD drives and replaces them with some Nero ones. That thing can cause a lot of conflicts with your drives and other software and I've heard some discs, particularly games will not work if InCD is installed.
I use to have that shit installed and all I can remember is practically no disc would work in my drive, and to get rid of it I had go through a long process of reinstalling drivers because even if you uninstall it, it DOES NOT reinstall your ASPI drivers.
It pointless too, even Windows can erase discs for you, it does nothing but monitor your drives.
If I were you I'd uninstall it.

Thanks for the reply, Amir89.
I've read other posts on the net saying that InCD is a pile of crap. I guess I was lucky for quite a while, because I had no problems at all with my DVD drives reading any discs.
If I were to uninstall InCD, how could I write and delete files to an RW disc? From my research on the net, it appears I need some kind of packet writing software. Is there some other kind that will work, and is more stable than InCD?
I tried your suggestion with Nero Express, but received the same error message that I got in regular Nero: "This disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc." I tried it with three different RW discs, all of which work in my laptop just fine.
I understand the general feeling about InCD, but I'd still like to try to get it to work before I uninstall it. Anyone else have any ideas?

To be honest I don't ever use rewritables mate so I'm really not sure.
From the programs I have, I know Alcohol 120% can erase discs, so can Nero, that's about it, if you have Alcohol try that.
As for writing, well I'm assuming you just prefer to drag and drop, that's why your using Packet Writing software.
There's really no difference between that method and just using a Burning ROM like Nero, Roxio, etc.. to copy files, in fact, you get more options and so on with Nero, so I would suggest you get used to that.

I just uninstalled InCD, and tried to erase a disc with Nero Express, so I could copy to it as you suggested using Nero. Unfortunately, it gave me the same error... that the disc is not a rewritable one, even though it is. So, it appears that the problem is not due to InCD. There must be some other problem.
I'll see if I can get a demo of Alcohol 120, to see if that works.
