What's the bottleneck here? (playing a huge MKV file)

CPU : AMD Athlon X2 3200+
Video card : ATI Sapphire 9200SE AGP 8x
RAM : 1GB
The file details are below. I get 18-19fps instead of 29.97fps. I am about to buy a new CPU (AMD X2 6000+) or a new AGP 8x video card, but can't decide which. What do you think is the bottleneck here?
Format : MKV
File size : 4.20 GB
Bit rate : 14 Mbit/s
Codec : MPEG-4 AVC
Codec/Info : MPEG4 ISO advanced profile
Width : 1280 pixels
Height : 768 pixels
Frame rate : 29.970 fps

i would say it is your videocard as it is an old 9200 series ati card.

Thank you, ddp, for your reply.
So, would it suffice if I upgraded the video card to a new one, let's say SAPPHIRE ATI X1650PRO (128Bit) 512MB AVIVO 8X? No need to upgrade the CPU?

I've been reading a lot on the x1650 pro... seems like a good card and its very cheap (newegg has them for around 70 dollars)... CNET reviewed it as having slightly better performance in almost every category then the comparable 7600gs. I just can't decide between that and the HD2600Pro (AGP), because it's a newer card with direct X 10/ and HDMI cable for close to the same prices (around 100).
Sorry for the double post, but I thought I might be able to help this poster while helping myself. Any suggestions?
No I don't think you will need to upgrade CPU if you can't but as I was advised, make sure your power supply can handle whatever card you buy!

cpu is alright i would think. whatever videocard you get & it needs extra power then might need to upgrade your psu if it doesn't meet the card's power requirements.

Thanks, ddp. I did some research and found out that the old 9200SE has no dedicated H.264 video decoder on-board, whereas the newer cards have.
As for the CPU, I'll see how it runs after I upgrade the video card. Of course, I'll keep an eye on the 6000+ or 6400+ and as soon as the price goes below US$100, I'll go an' grab one. :)

you have to make sure that the 6000+ series will work with your motherboard. also, the 6000+ won't go down for a while. by the time the 6000+ are $100, newer AMD processors will be out.

Hmm, the socket is the same, namely AM2 (940p). Is there anything else I should check? BTW, my mobo is Biostar K8M800. The FSB is limited by 800Mhz. Would that be a concern for the 6000+ series?

from the biostar website, looks like your mobo can handle up to a 4800+ series.
if you want to squeeze out the most you can from your system, then go with the 4800+, upgrade the ram to 2gigs, and get a better videocard.

Yup, you guys are right. I must have missed that CPU support link. 4800+ is the max I can for with this mobo. Oh well, a new ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT will do all the hard work anyway.
