Im new to over clocking i just need to learn the basics. could anyone out there be able to teach me. i have a nvidia 680i LT motherboard and a PD 3.0. i have a stock cpu fan. i just want to know if i could overclock to 3.2 or 3.4 with it. if so could anyone help me in doing so? i have two computers so it be alot easier for me. thanks
Firstly, Pentium D's are horrible for overclocking.
You wouldn't get much more performance out of your system by overclocking by 200Mhz or so, either way.
Second, with a stock fan? Forget about it. Pentium D's overheat like a mother, You need to upgrade to something like a ThermalTech custom Heatsink or a larger fan. Whatever your CPU came with.
I suggest before you even think about attempting to overclock your processor, read some guides on the Internet and look around forums to see if any one else has overclocked their Pentium D's, what fans/sinks/multiplier settings they used, and the kind of performance they get, etc...
Trust me, this isn't something some random on a forum can tell you how to do, and if you only have one PC, than be careful about it. You can seriously fk up your comp if you have no idea what your doing.
