Hi,
My kid just got to Pokemon GBA games for use on his DS. He is unable to save any progress from these games on the DS. Is this not possible or is there something else required to achieve this? Any help greatly appreciated to make this kid happy again.
Thanks

You're talking about the GBA cartridges, right? If so, you should be able to save onto the cartridge. To save in Pokemon games, you just push start mid-game and find save in the menu screen.

Hi, thanks for the reply. What's happening is that he is pressing "Start" and selecting the "Save" from the menu, he is then asked "Would you like to overwrite the save data" or words to that effect, he then gets a message saying "this game has now been saved". However when he switches the DS back on later a message comes up saying "This save file has been deleted" and all game progress is lost. The games are Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red and are GBA cartridges.
Thanks

Did you buy the games new or 2nd hand (previously owned)? Just asking as if they're 2nd hand, it's possible the battery used to save the games has died and game save may no longer be possible. Also, were they from a shop or from ebay? Some ebay sellers tend to be from Hong Kong, ie, pirate games with shoddy batteries in them that last the trip over to you and then that's it!! Ihad this experience with Advance Wars where I bought 2 carts and both of them lasted about 3 months each :(

Hi,
They were bought from a reputable UK shop on eBay in the last few weeks and did not save from day 1.I am contacting the seller about replacements or refund.
Is battery replacement easy/inexpensive?
Thanks

About the battery replacement, I couln't tell you as both times I got shafted with ebay, I just changed buyers and bought it again until I got one that works!! I have the expansion pack 3 in 1 now so I can use the ROM (I hope I didn't break any forum rules with that last comment!!. But if the shop is reputable as you say, then surely they should offer an exchange or a refund??

@ SAWalsh, battery replacement should be pretty simple. I never managed to get one of the GBA cases open though. To open one, you should get one of Nintendo's screwdrivers to open the case easier. Once the case is open, there should be a battery in there that just slides in and out. You can get those from a watch store. If you open it, all it really costs is the about $7 for the screwdriver and around $5 for the battery.
Hope this helps

hi! i hope this would help.

i encountered the same problem recently when i tried playing my pokemon fire red gba cartridge on my nds.. everything was going well, i did the in-game saving and all that, then i turned my ds off to eat..

when i turned it on to play again, it says "save file has been deleted.." TOO MUCH!! then i just decided to just play it again from scratch.. the next time i played the game, same thing happened again!! AH! THE AGONY!!

then i realized that my R4 was still inserted in the boot slot 1.. took it off, then played the gba cartridge again.. saved my file.. rebooted, then my save file was still there!! woohoo!! success..

so if i were you or your child, take off whatever's in the boot slot 1 when you're playing a gba cartridge..:)

hope that helps!

"there's someone out there for me.. i know she's waiting so patiently.."
