software to backup dvd onto hdd as a compressed iso format

I am trying to help a friend out who is interested in backing up some of his dvds. He prefers the iso format but his software does a 1:1 backup from the dvd to iso which generally means that the file is large. Is there a way to backup a dvd to a "D5 file size" yet store (or convert) it as a small iso (as opposed to a 1:1 backup)? And if at all possible, can the software perform the task in basically a one click step?

I am hoping that there is one software alone that can rip, compress and convert the dvd to a "small" iso file.

Thats basically the task he is trying to do. If i left out any info. pertinent to the situation, i am sorry, but I would be happy to gve you more

Thanks for he quick response iluvendo. I'll give that a try and see how it works out. I have not used that program in so long I completely forgot about it.

I have been searching all over coming up with software like DVDCloner, CopytoDVD, etc. that just did a 1:1 conversion to iso which features did not allow compression.
