Happy New Year to all!

I have downloaded and used Freez DVD Ripper and used it successfully a few times - but now it's no longer free.

I've download Free DVD Ripper 2.25 but the resultant AVI or MPG version of the DVD is almost unusable due to a jagged saw tooth effect on movement.

Any one else used this software successfully?

Is it a 'setting' thing - if it is I don't understand them!

Why not use DVDFab HD Decrypter for free?

The jaggies are usually interlace artifacts. What are you playing the files on? If a computer, try using VLC player, where you can select various 'de-interlace' modes. If you're watching them on a TV then the field order is messed up.

Right BEGINNER here.

Is a decrypter different from a ripper - is it something I do the the DVD before converting it to an AVI?

Ta for your patience.

Read again, carefully this time, the above mentioned posts. Take also soe time to navigate through this site. There' s a lot of intresting info concerning ripping/authoring tools.
There' s no need to pass from vobs to avis/mpgs and back again to vobs. Take in mind that the most you converting from one type to other always there's a luck of quality.

I will have a look through the glossary and see what I can understand.

Decrypter didn't seem to help.

I've achieved what I wanted by:

Using "Handbrake" to convert.

This produces a 'jerky' file (when either using MPEG4 or XVID) options.

Putting the result through "Prism" (converting to XVID) produces a fine file (though larger than I'd like - but they are 2 hours) with no apparent loss of quality.

Tony

Any other suggestions on how to achieve this with less work would still be appreciated.
