I wish people would just use zip or some other free compression instead of making rar files for which I have to buy software to open.

BTW, what was the 1905 problem? I'm guessing it didn't have anything to do with the Russian revolution...(look it up)

Erm - maybe just get winrar for "free" like loads of other stuff ;)

I like it - it's pretty much the standard compression program and imho an essential piece of kit. It's virtually the first piece of software I install on any new system.

I could, but PeaZip looks to be open source, which I like, and WinRar has a shareware nag warning that will eventually make me break down and buy it as I understand things.

The latest version of WinZip (11) will open RAR files. Of course, it's only a trial version, so it's not technically free. I've read that there are keygens for this, but who knows what's fact and what's fiction when you read information on the Internet.

7-zip is free and handles all formats. I believe it is Windows only, though.

I tried 7Zip on my last box and really didn't like it. Just personal preference I think.

I have installed PeaZip and it is exactly what I need/want. Works perfectly.

Between FileZilla, PeaZip, and BitTornado I can sling files with the best of them now.

Hmmm.

Ice desk smooth time.

Oh? We weren't playing the "Post 4 random words strung together incomprehensibly" game? My bad. Sorry.

I think he meant to say that if you install WinRAR and use the trial version, that the trial won't expire. Of course, I can't confirm this, because I don't use it.
