After a long time of faithful service, my Pioneer DVR-106D bit the dust. I decided on a Samsung SH-S203N as a replacement. It is a SATA drive on a MSI K8N Neo4 board running XP Pro SR2. When I attempted to burn to a DVD disk in Nero 7 at all speeds (including 4x), I get ?DMA-driver error, CRC error?. It?s a new burner with the current (SB01) firmware. I changed SATA ports and get the same error. After my first failed attempt, I?ve been running in simulation mode while trying to find a cause. Below is my Nero log and thank you, in advance, for your help:

You have to enable DMA. It is off now, that's why the CRC error. Also, just because your burner is new, it doesn't mean it has the newest firmware.SB02 is available:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2251

Guide to turn DMA on:
http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

I would also get rid of the Roxio drivers, as they conflict with nero. Here you can ger Roxio Zapper :

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think DMA was an issue with SATA. Where did you see the firmware? I went to the Samsung and only saw firmware versions up to SB01.

You are right about the firmware, my mistake. I apologise.
I looked at the wrong TSS drive that had the same firmware name as yours

I was looking at your link regarding activating DMA. It refers to make changes to the Primary or secondary IDE channel. Do SATA drives also rely on these channels?

I am having the same problem. I had an old IDE Drive, and replaced it with this drive. Is this question ever going to get answered?

If you?ve got Dma off on any of your ide channels and you?ve got your hardrives connected to these it will effect your burning with your Sata drive Dma doesn?t apply to Sata connections also make sure you don?t connect it to the raid sata connection unless you go into the bios and select none raid for that connection also make sure on you ide channels you don?t put an hard drive and a cdrom on the same ribbon cable as the cdrom can slow down your hard drive and make Dma unavailable for that drive when using Sata burners make sure your chipset drivers are up to date for your motherboard.

Well, here is the situation: I had a Plextor IDE burner, it crapped out, I replaced it with two Samsung SH-S203N 's I keep on having burn issues where i get the DMA driver error, CRC error.

I have three Hd's plugged in. Two SATA and one IDE drive(set as my OS drive/master drive)

I RMA'd the drives to Newegg.com, and still am having the same problems. My specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: NVIDIA
System Model: AWRDACPI
BIOS: )Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 657MB used, 4327MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

My mobo is a DFI Lanparty UT Nf4 Ultra-d

I can't for the life of me figure out whats going on.
I clicked on the properties of the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:
on the NVIDIA nforce4 ADMA controller it shows this:
Serial ATA Generation 1 - 1.5g on the primary and secondary channels
and
"Let bios select transfer mode" is checked
Here is a Screenshot of it

By Thrash4u

now for my HD that is IDE, that I use for my Operating system, it has
"ULTRA DMA 5 - Ultra 100" checked
Here is a Screenshot of it

By Thrash4u

I am using SATA II cables on both burners, and one split power connection from IDI to 2 SATA power connections.

I'm having the exact same problem, and I too have DFI lanparty NF4 Ultra D motherboard. I have one IDE hard drive which in on a separate IDE channel from an IDE DVD burner. I also have an Optiarc AD-7191S SATA DVD burner. I cannot burn anything with the SATA burner. I get the same ?DMA-driver error, CRC error?. I have changed my IDE driver from Nvidia to Microsoft but, I still get the same error. I do have DMA turned on for the IDE hard disk (DMA mode 5).

Can anyone help? I'm at my wits end.

You haven?t got your sata drive connected to the raid sata connections have you? They are usually red connections if so change in the bios to none raid even doing that I?ve heard of people having trouble when using the raid connection

I have RAID turned off in the bios, and I did check the drive on a another computer and it works fine. I have seen somewhere in my searches about connecting to slave instead of master SATA port. But AFAIK that is strictly an IDE concept.

My board is the Ultra-D which only has 4 SATA ports that can be configured as RAID using the Nforce chipset. Some of the other Lanparty's have an additional 4 SATA ports under the control of an Sil 3114 chipset.

I wonder if anyone is able to use an SATA DVD writer while connected to one of those SATA ports?
