I've recently converted a .VOB file using AutoGK. I've loaded Vdub up and place the .avi in and it tells me there is a total of 12sec audio desyncronised. Does anyone know why this audio is out of sync?

I don't know what would cause it;perhaps try DivX instead of XviD as the codec.
If the sync is constant , you can select 'Audio' "interleaving' in VirtualDub and set the 'Skew' to reflect the sync error 12000 or -12000 for 12 seconds.

Virtualdub has a plugin that will load linked VOB files, so you could try that to see if the conversion is better.

I've not tried your way yet attar I'm doing that now but I did try another method you told someone else about FPS. I did that and now at the start the audio is ahead, and at the end it is behind, a total of 6 seconds either side now :(.

No beg your pardon, its in sync at 4/5's of the way through, ahead before that and behind after that.

I get this from VirtualDub when I put it in:

VBR audio detected, VBR audio in AVI is non standard bla bla bla 10second delays. Full processing mode is is recommended to decompress or recompress the audio (bitrate 287.2 +- 36.3kbps.

If the audio sync is not constant,it may be easier to convert the DVD again.

In Auto GK, advanced options, you can opt for CBR audio, which may bring the sync back in line - but I'm not sure if the codec has to be installed separately.
Or try loading the DVD into VirtualDub and converting..of course the required output codecs have to be available, i.e. installed in the system.

The only other way would be to split this avi and try and adjust the sync then rejoin - which will often end in tears.

An alternative would also be 'Any Video Converter' - the free version - which can load VOB files and output XviD.

I put the original VOB file directly to vDub and it has the same latency. Which is strange because when I play the file using power cinema it works just fine. I have no idea what is going on. I've tried CBR earlier and alternating the bit rate for the sound, nothing works, I've tried skewing and I've tried full processing, you name it. Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for the help so far :)

I've had another look at the video and noticed that the FPS is greater than if I play the game along side Vdub (vdub on my pc, my game on my PS2). The problem is that the FPS is ahead by I don't know how many seconds per minute. Is there any calculation I can do to determine the out sync per minute?

Media Player Classic has an adjustment for sync that you can note and may be usable in VirtualDub.

BTW, if you demux the audio (wav) from the video with VirtualDub, you can use 'Goldwave' to stretch the file to the same length as the video (I think the feature is called TimeWarp) - I don't have the program so cannot say if it works.

I've got Goldwave but I don't really want to strech the audio, but I'll try it thanks.

BTW there is a link here for that which you gave me in your previous post in step 7, www.digital-digest.com/audio-synch.htm which doesn't work :(.

IT WORKED!!! I got the frame rate sorted using Vdub as the processor, and set the framerate the way you told the other guy! Oh thank you so very much attar I'd give you a million pund if I could :D.

Thanks again!

That's good to know - can you list the steps that you used in VirtualDub, for anyone else who is doing a search?

For people with progressive audio de-syncronisation problems, here is an excellent solver.

1: Used DVD recorder to record video from the TV
2: Used Alcohol 120% and used 'image burning' to copy the file to an Alcohol 120% file (a database made by Alcohol 120%)
3: Mounted the file--> (by right clicking the Alcohol file and choosing 'mount on (whatever letter))--->drive on the virtual disk drive (automaticly created once you get Alcohol for people that don't know).
4: Copied the files by exploring the virtual drive (because file was mounted).
5: Pasted on my desktop

Heres where I had problems:

I was using AutoGK and that is not the best source to process audio sync, HOWEVER it contained all the best software AND codecs needed to process the audio and video, including VirtualDub. So its best to download AutoGK if you get the best stuff, just search 'AutoGK' on Google, thats how I did it. It will install a few other programs so it can run effectively. Heres the next stage:

6: Once the files have been downloaded, open up VirtualDub, FORGET AutoGK. Now simply drag the .VOB file into the VirtualDub window.

7: If you have already got a sync problem usng another software and have already changed the file to .avi, put the original .VOB file into the VirtualDub window as explained on the previous step.

8: In video (top bars), select the 'full processing' mode, and do the same for the audio.

9: Now in all hoping once you have the .VOB file in VirtualDub it SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY detect un-synchronisation, it may not tell you but it has. So go to the top task bars and click on 'video' and then 'framerate'.

10: If VirtualDub is willing to do what you want, so much the better. Now if you look at the details on here it will say 'no change' as default (normal), but we don't have a normal situation so click 'change so audio and video durations match.

11: Now you should notice where the box that says 'FPS' there should be different values. Click on the 'convert to fps' on the right and place in the same value as the automatic change made above. Then click 'ok'.

12: This worked for me. Now click on 'video' again and go to 'compression' NEVER forget that, oh my no. Select X-vid MPEG-4, if you have the codec this will be fine, if not look on Google, or even here at AfterDawn and just search for 'X-vid MPEG-4 codec'.

13: Go through everything to make sure your set. Now just save as .avi by going into 'file' and your set.

NOTE: This description worked for me when there was a set of audio per frames, for instance there would be say for example (these figures aren't real), 19 audio peices playing every second, but 20 video peices, abnd after like a minute you get way off, as also called 'progressive desyncronisation'. HOPEFULLY it should work, if not, post here and therw should be plenty of folk to help, including me :). Good Luck, and heres hoping VirtualDub's in a good mood :D.
