I was just wondering if it is normal for Nero Vision (with Nero 7) to take up 100% cpu for the entire transcoding of an avi movie, around 2.5 to 3 hours. My pc is at a standstill and the fan is going non-stop...quite annoying.

I've got a 3.2 ghz pentium with 1 gig ram.

Nero Vision(transcoding in general) is CPU intensive and requires a good video card; the RAM is not solicited as much as the CPU. If the PC is almost frozen" during encoding, try setting Nero Vision to work in a low priority( it will take longer though)

Yeah it's normal, but with a 3.2Ghz processor it shouldn't really happen. Are you running any other applications when your burning, or a lot of background processes in Task Manager?

2.5 to 3hrs is not uncommon either, especially for lengthier AVI files.

You could try other software.
I've tried Nero Vision, personally it sucks at transcoding AVI (horrible codec). Give DVDFlick a try, it's free, simple and gives you excellent quality. It's also a one-click app. too so it can convert, author and burn all in one.

I think it will suck as much power as it can. If you had a 6Ghz dual core, probably it would max that too.

I rarely reach the 100% CPU Usage mark with DVDFlick, dunno about Nero Vision but I'm willing to bet coz it's larger and has a bigger memory footprint, not to mention Nero likes to run about 5 Nero processes in the background; it's a real system hog.

I have almost always used NeroVision to convert my AVI files and to date I have NEVER encountered any problems with either audio lag or quality loss...personally I have not tried Flick however whilst NeroVision continues to do the job for me I will continue to use it.

Hi gwendolin,
I guess you are one of the lucky ones! I am not talking from personal experience when enlisting Nero Vision as a problematic application, as I have not attempted to use it(I need english subtitles for most of my AVIs, and NV does not support subs yet). I do see many people in the forums having problems with NV. Ofcourse, many issues are also user caused!
