FIFA 08 .sav files

I am playing the ROM of FIFA08 but it seems to be creating a corrupt .sav file.

If I play the game and then turn it off, then turn on again and select the game to play, I get nothing.

If I then delete the .sav file I can play the game until such time as I turn it off again.

The .sav file is exactly the same name as the .nds.

I have downloaded the game from a few sources and each one gives me the same problem.

I have the problem in both my DS Lite and my Son's original DS

Please can someone give me any ideas as to how this can be resolved.
